Winners Announced For The Discovery Awards 2019

Two winners were announced at the conclusion of The Discovery Awards Friday, May 24 at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. The award for Best Female Performer went to Axyl Langford, a sophomore at Owasso High School, and the award for Best Male Performer went to J. J. Willis, also a sophomore at Owasso High School. The Discovery Awards is a special regional program highlighting and awarding excellence in Eastern Oklahoma high school musical theatre.

Casting Announced For AFTER DARK; OR, A DRAMA OF LONDON LIFE At The Finborough Theatre

Written in 1868, the year that the Finborough Theatre's building was constructed, The first London production in over 120 years of Dion Boucicault's rip-roaring Victorian melodrama, After Dark; or, A Drama of London Life, directed by the multi-award-winning Phil Willmott, opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four week limited season on Wednesday, 12 June 2019 (Press Nights: Wednesday, 19 June 2019 and Thursday, 20 June 2019 at 7.30pm).

FairShakes Presents ROMEO AND JULIET

FairShakes' springtime production of Romeo and Juliet will be performed outdoors in various New York City parks between Thursday, May 30th and Saturday, June 1st. Directed by Max Waszak, the show will be the culmination of five actors' exploration of Shakespeare's undying portrayal of true love, honor, heartbreak, miscommunication, and reconciliation. This spare telling of Romeo and Juliet aims to be clear, honest, and to the point. The performers will drive the text and invite you to bring your imaginations along for the ride.

SHEAR MADNESS To Open Totem Pole Playhouse's Brand-New Summer Subscription Series

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA, has announced a major change in its programming format starting this summer. Beginning May 31st through September 8th, a new 5-show summer subscription series will be offered. The new format will allow Totem Pole to offer a wider variety of offerings beyond the limited productions which the Playhouse produces. In addition to the new 5-show offering there will be several "Friday Fun Nights" throughout the summer which will include family movie night sing-alongs complete with picnic dinners and solo shows featuring performers from Broadway and Television.

BWW Review: AIDA at the John W. Engeman Theatre

Closing out The John W. Engeman Theatre's dazzling season is a thrilling a showing of Elton John & Tim Rice's Aida. The beautiful Northport venue outdoes itself with the lush production of the heart-tugging musical. Excellently directed by Paul Stancato, the cast is remarkable drawing the audience in at every turn.

Peter Quilter's BESTSELLER Gets World Premiere at ICT

 International City Theatre presents a zany comic romp about writers, how they write, the stories they tell and the secrets they keep. Jane Page directs the world premiere of Bestseller by internationally renowned playwright Peter Quilter (End of the Rainbow, Glorious!) for a three-week run, June 14through June 30, atInternational City Theatre in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center. Two low-priced previews are set for June 12 and June 13.

Goodman Theatre Celebrates Raising Over $800,000 at Starstruck Gala

More than 450 guests were starstruck at Goodman Theatre's May 18 Spring Gala, headlined by Broadway star and Tony Award nominee Megan Hilty. The black-tie event, held at the Fairmont Chicago, raised more than $800,000 to support the theater's Education and Community Engagement programs. The gala was co-chaired by Teri and Doug Brown and Carole Wood and Carl Jenkins. The Goodman's "Starstruck" Spring Gala was presented by The Women's Board.

Johnny Mercer Foundation and AMTP Announces 14th Songwriters Project Lineup

Multi-platinum-selling and award-winning songwriter Lindy Robbins will join the roster of master teachers for the 14th annual Johnny Mercer Foundation Songwriters Project, a partnership between the Johnny Mercer Foundation and the American Music Theatre Project (AMTP) at Northwestern University.

Science Channel to Premiere the TRUTH BEHIND THE MOON LANDING

LAMDA Announces Summer Season 2019

LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) summer season 2019 will run from 29 May to 17 July at the drama school's West London campus. Directed by industry professionals, the summer season marks the final productions of LAMDA's graduating acting and technical students as they prepare to embark on their professional careers. LAMDA graduates have gone on to enjoy illustrious careers on stage, screen and behind the scenes, with alumni including Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ruth Wilson and David Oyelowo. As part of its commitment to offer local residents increased access to the dramatic arts, half price tickets are available for Hammersmith & Fulham residents.

BWW Review: 33 VARIATIONS delights at Theatre Baton Rouge

Theatre Baton Rouge's production of 33 VARIATIONS is a theatrical delight. Written by Moises Kaufman and directed by Shannon Walsh, it is a mixture of a biographical play about Ludwig van Beethoven, and a 21st Century music scholar hoping to understand the origins behind his Diabelli Variations. The nominees have been announced for the inaugural year of The Discovery Awards, presented by Celebrity Attractions in partnership with the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. This special regional program highlights and awards excellence in Eastern Oklahoma high school musical theatre and will conclude with a one night only special showcase event Friday, May 24 at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. The best female performer selected and the best male performer selected will represent Oklahoma in New York City at the Jimmy Awards, otherwise known as The National High School Musical Theatre Awards in June 2019. Tickets to The Discovery Awards are on sale now.
