BWW Review: J.T. Rogers' Fascinating OSLO Transfers To Broadway and to The Trump Administration

When J.T. Rogers' fascinating play about the power and beauty of human interaction and diplomacy, OSLO, premiered Off-Broadway this past July at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theater, it was a week before the national convention where Donald Trump was to be voted in as the Republican party's presidential candidate. While a good deal of the country was surprised to see the celebrity businessman who had never held a political office get so far in the election process, New York playgoers, a predominantly left-leaning bunch, were most likely optimistic, though cautiously so, that his candidacy would collapse during the general election.

A collaboration between Mason Gross School of the Arts and the Zimmerli Art Museum provides a window into the working process of American contemporary artist Kara Walker and a cohort of Rutgers students in a project that explores the history of the United States as a slave-owning nation and the shadows that it continues to cast over the 21st century. Walker was named Tepper Chair in Visual Arts at Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2015. This five-year residency provides visual arts students the opportunity to work alongside the prolific and often provocative artist, in a creative endeavor rooted in research and collaboration. The cohort is currently examining themes of Memory, Memorials, and Monuments. BWW Review: CAROUSEL, London Coliseum

The English National Opera (ENO) have been criticised in recent years for their staging of musicals. The last two years have seen the company-whose home is the London Coliseum-score huge success with their adaptations of Sweeney Todd and Sunset Boulevard (which starred Hollywood icon Glen Close) and in a recent interview with The Stage, Producer Michael Linnit claimed the ENO 'would not survive' were it not for the revenue generated by putting on more commercial musicals in the venue.
