Everyone knows Hugh Hefner, but the man at Hefner's side for all those ground-breaking Playboy years was Victor Lownes, who passed away January 11, 2017. A Celebration of this extraordinary man's life was organized by The Mabel Mercer Foundation and Victor's wife Marilyn Cole Lownes. It was quite fitting, since Victor Lownes and Hugh Hefner bonded at the beginning of Playboy Magazine because of their love of the cabaret artist Mabel Mercer.

As it bids farewell to its home of 11 years, the Metropolitan Room will present 24 continuous hours of free-wheeling entertainment -- from Sunday September 24 at 9pm, to Monday September 25 at 9pm. Featuring a mind-boggling 144 individual acts, with over a dozen emcees, and a battalion of musicians, technicians and hangers-on, the Metropolitan Room's 3rd annual Cabaret Marathon Extravaganza It's a Tradition was spawned by the Metropolitan Room's first record-setting (60-hour) entertainment marathon in January 2015. That massive undertaking shattered the Guinness World Record for longest variety show ever.

On August 4, Celia Berk, Sally Darling, Meg Flather, Josephine Sanges and Lisa Viggiano reprise TOGETHER: 2017 Cabaret Award- Nominated Vocalists whose first performance in June, benefiting Trinity Place Shelter, was warmly received. Proceeds from their upcoming August show will benefit #TheEmpathyInitiative of The Seeing Place Theatre, a year-long season of seven plays that fight against sexism, ageism, racism, extremism and oppression.
