These legendary songwriters wrote mega-hits such as, 'Vision of Love,”  “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),” “Shout,” “The Joker,” “Hollaback Girl,” “Heaven is a Place on Earth,” and “Dancing In The Street.” The star-studded induction event is slated for Thursday, June 11th at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. GLAAD, the world's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization, today announced that it will honor global superstar Taylor Swift and award-winning director, producer, writer, and advocate Janet Mock at the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday, April 16, 2020.

With 2019 coming to a close, the new decade is set to bring us a slew of film adaptations of our favorite stage musicals! From West Side Story to In the Heights to The Prom, we are gearing up for some big films, but before we move into 2020, let's have a look back on the last ten years of musicals turned into films!

During the week of Dec. 2, 2019, ABC's “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” ranked as the week's No. 1 late-night talk show outright in Adults 18-49, edging out CBS' “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (427,000 vs. 424,000) and NBC's “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (418,000). In addition, despite airing a repeat telecast on Friday (versus four original broadcasts for “Fallon”), “Kimmel” outdrew “Fallon” by 10% in Total Viewers (1.876 million vs. 1.713 million) to stand as the No. 2 talk show of the week. 

The GRAMMY Award-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus---recently featured in the New York Times, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and on Fox 5 News at Six with Ernie Anastos---performs four free/cheap shows for the home borough this holiday season next week. Locals can catch the starry Chorus for free at the Brooklyn Borough President's Tree Lighting (Dec. 11 at 5:15p), and with affordable tickets to three concert programs at Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph with Holiday Harmonies (Dec. 13th at 7:30pm and Dec. 14th at 2:30pm), as well as Winter's Eve (Dec. 14th at 7:30pm). The 28-year-old Brooklyn institution draws 7-17 year old singers from all five boroughs, and has established a national profile as the go-to youth choir for classical, pop, theatrical, and out-of-the-box collaborations with A-list artists and institutions like Bon Iver, The National, Beyonce & Jay-Z, Barbra Streisand, Elton John, the New York Philharmonic, Nico Muhly, and Caroline Shaw.

Following its record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at American Repertory Theater last summer, Jagged Little Pill the musical celebrates opening night tonight, December 5, at the Broadhurst Theatre.

Producers Robert Fyvolent and David Dinerstein have announced the start of production on Black Woodstock, a feature documentary about the Harlem Cultural Festival directed by Ahmir a?oeQuestlovea?? Thompson. This film marks Thompson's feature directorial debut and focuses on the 1969 outdoor festival in Harlem's Mount Morris Park. The festival featured dozens of  extraordinary performances by artists including Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone, Nina Simone, B.B. King, the Staple Singers, the 5th Dimension, David Ruffin, Mahalia Jackson and Gladys Knight and the Pips. The Harlem Cultural Festival took place the same summer as the famed Woodstock festival, and boasted an attendance on par with that concert 100 miles away.  Over 300,000 people attended, yet it received virtually no coverage from the mainstream media. The 40 hours of never-seen-before footage was originally shot by the late television pioneer Hal Tulchin, but has remained in storage for the past 50 years, keeping this incredible event in America's history lost - until now.
