West Virginia Public Theatre (WVPT) brings another piece of Broadway to North-Central West Virginia: Directed by Jen Coles, The Last Five Years is an intimate, funny, and devastatingly honest examination of life and love. The musical opens on Friday, September 7 at 8pm, with additional shows on September 8, 13-15 at 8pm and a matinee on September 9 at 2pm. All performances will take place at the Tanner Theatre at Monongalia Arts Center (MAC).

Sometimes a show comes along on Broadway that leaves you saying, 'Hmm I wonder what it would be like without the large scale production?' The 2014 Jason Robert Brown/Marsha Norman musical The Bridges of Madison County is one of those shows. It had a large production concept that I felt swallowed the small story it was trying to tell. Mind you Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale gave incredible performances as the two leads and Jason Robert Brown rightfully deserved his two Tony Awards for Best Score and Orchestrations after the show had already closed.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, it was recently announced that composer Jason Robert Brown and Broadway and TV star Jeremy Jordan will team up for a performance at SubCulture NYC on September 17th!

The Broadway at Birdland concert series was proud to present 'More About The Melody,' hosted by Broadway cellist Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf. The one-night-only event took place on Monday, August 6.

Caitlin Tipping and Connor Burnett will play Cathy and Jamie respectively in a new production of Jason Robert Brown's musical, The Last Five Years, running at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at PQA VENUES @Riddle's Court (venue 277) from 8 - 19 August at 14:00. The show, about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, is renowned for its unconventional structure - Cathy tells her story backwards while Jamie tells his one chronologically. The two characters meet once only, in the middle of the show.

The acoustics of Birdland, usually employed to perfectly show off the music coming from some of the finest Jazz musicians in the world was also up to the task of accurately accommodating the elegant sounds from the cello and artistry of Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf. What do you get what you cross two solution-minded musical theatre lovers with a need to create and a love of collaboration? Husband-and-wife team Luke and Blythe Kirkwood are the prime example of artists that saw a need in the Houston theatre world, and took it upon themselves to fill it. After noticing the wealth of musicals that rarely get to be produced because of their technical challenges or size, the Kirkwoods found a way to bring Houston audiences their favorite musicals in a different form of performance. The result was Summer Sing-Thru Series: a one-night-only concert event that brings all the musical wonder of your beloved Broadway soundtracks to life, with full orchestration by both professionals and high school to college-aged students.

Composer Jason Robert Brown, best known for The Last Five Years and The Bridges of Madison County, will be workshopping a new musical called The Connector at Princeton University this fall.

He started with a new composition titled 'Hope' from his latest album ' How We React And How We Recover' and then performed compositions from many of his Broadway shows (Parade, The Bridges of Madison County, Honeymoon in Vegas, The Last 5 Years, and Songs from a New World).
