The WIZARD OF OZ is familiar to so many after all this time (and so many versions, including the Disney alternate universe ‘Wicked’ franchise) that one might be forgiven for thinking that no version is capable of any surprises anymore. AND YET. I am delighted to report that in this production lovingly done by Toby’s, there are delightful, unexpected moments, including puppetry and a surprising dance number, plus The Jitterbug.

The 41st Helen Hayes Awards took place on May 19, 2025, at The Anthem, honoring excellence in Washington D.C. theatre. Signature Theatre led with six wins. Awards were presented in 41 categories from 165 eligible 2024 productions.
Overall, the night was highly enthralling and a testament to the importance of young minds' access to the arts. The performers at YAA should certainly be proud of the performance on the 26th, and hopefully feeling the wonder of performing in such a wonderful space, and of sharing a show with gritty and pertinent themes.
Salvation in the form of a children's band? Sure, why not? THE MUSIC MAN has captured the hearts of audiences for generations. Now, the beloved Toby's Dinner Theatre in Columbia, Maryland undertakes this winner, through May 18, 2025. It's beautifully done and highly entertaining.

SISTER ACT at Toby's in Columbia is a delightfully energetic show that is woman-driven and relationship-positive. Songwriter Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater (of Disney fame) create numbers specifically for theatrical production of the movie-inspired script. Ear-pleasing harmonies abound in an extravaganza of song, dance and sisterhood.
ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE at Toby's in Columbia wearing flip-flops and a Hawaiian shirt. Each familiar Jimmy Buffett number is performed with signature Toby’s exuberance, as guests join in singing. The Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty musical is ambitious for the company – and the tiny stage. The company delivers. The twelve cast members and the six-person band fill the space with music and movement, working on tiers and in every nook and cranny of the stage.
