Directors Lab West, under the direction of steering committee members Che'Rae Adams, Ernest Figueroa, Janet Miller, and Diana Wyenn, has announced its 20th annual conference for early and mid-career stage directors and choreographers.   Since its founding, over 600 directors and choreographers have participated in the Lab's week-long explorations of cutting edge thinking for the modern stage, including prominent artists such as Vincent Paterson, Marc Bruni, Lissa Wolpe and Gregg Daniel.  Hundreds of prominent guest artists have volunteered their time over the years to speak with Lab participants including luminaries such as Jack O'Brien, Randy Newman, Tonya Pinkins and Jason Alexander.  For full lists of past alumni and guest artists, please visit www.directorslabwest.com.   (more...)

Northern Stage & Dartmouth College to Launch Undergraduate Theater Training Program

Northern Stage, an award winning LORT-D regional theater in White River Junction, and Dartmouth College are proud to announce a partnership that will expand the collaborative exchange between the two institutions. Northern Stage has recently been granted Academic Theatre status by Actor's Equity Association, which recognizes the formal relationship between Northern Stage and Dartmouth, and provides each institution with a set of unique benefits. The two now join the ranks of other similar Academic Theatre partnerships such as Hartford Stage and the Hartt School, St. Louis Rep and Webster University, and Syracuse Stage and Syracuse University. "As a Dartmouth Theater Department faculty member, I know how important it is to teach our students to implement the tools and theories they learn on campus in a professional setting," says Northern Stage Producing Artistic Director Carol Dunne.  "This collaborative relationship will help our theater students make a bigger and more immediate impact on the American theater because they will have the ability to thrive in a professional setting." BWW Reviews: Good People's MARRY ME A LITTLE Takes Pleasingly Gentle Approach with Sondheim Revue

During the crazy broohaha of the Hollywood Fringe Festival, there are plenty of loud, over.the.top noisy shows, if that suits your pleasure. Sondheim's Marry Me a Little is a quiet, gentle little 60-minute musical revue that just doesn't fit that bill. And that's totally fine by me! I prefer Sondheim anyway. In Marry Me a Little, conceived by Craig Lucas and Norman Rene, many of the songs are from the then - late 90s - unproduced Saturday Night coupled with a multitude of songs cut from hits like Company, Follies, A Little Night Music and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. It's a two-person intimate show on the vast Lillian stage and as usual Janet Miller has staged the piece adeptly with lots of tender loving care. (more...)
