Kaitlyn Baker to Perform at Kentucky Opry This Weekend

When Nashville recording artist Kaitlyn Baker performs at the Kentucky Opry on Friday, October 28, the concert will be especially meaningful to one person in the audience.

Songwriter Janet Miller, who lives in nearby Murray, Kentucky, co-wrote Baker's latest single "To Pieces." The ballad, about a woman trying to get over a lost love, is being played by a growing number of country radio stations.

"I've been writing for over 15 years and many of my songs come from my own personal experiences," Miller said. "I knew we had to go deep on this song to make it big. Scott Arnold was brought in as a co-writer and when we finished, I knew it was one of my best songs."

An accompanying music video follows Baker as she walks through the woods, singing about the man who left her. The video, which premiered recently on The Heartland Network, can also be seen on YouTube.

"To Pieces" is one of six songs on Baker's "Coal Train" EP, which also includes "Raging River," another song she wrote with Miller. Other notable tracks on the EP are "Burn" and "Coal Train," the latter of which was selected for the 2015 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards ZinePak CD.

Miller has served as the regional coordinator of the West Kentucky Chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). She and Baker met three years ago in Nashville, and instantly clicked.

"I love her fiery, spunky attitude and her country roots," Baker said. "I have worked with other songwriters, but I have not written with many women. Janet is able to write from a woman's perspective, in a way that other women can relate to. 'To Pieces' is a great example of that."

Opening for Kaitlyn Baker on October 28 will be singer/songwriter Justin Hatcher. A long-time fixture on Western Kentucky's country music circuit, he has recently been performing gospel music with his new band, Higher Calling. Hatcher first performed at the Kentucky Opry at the age of 16, before joining his family's band, Sidewinder. He was a state finalist in the Colgate Country Showdown, and was also a national finalist for the USA Network television show "Nashville Star."
