People's Light is proud to announce Sanjit De Silva, James Ijames, Deepa Purohit, and Laura Schellhardt as the participating playwrights in the second round of the company's groundbreaking New Play Frontiers Residency & Commission program. The playwrights officially begin the program on July 9, 2017, in conjunction with the final performance of Project Dawn by Karen Hartman, the first New Play Frontiers play to premiere at People's Light. This second round of residencies and commissions, along with the production of Project Dawn, are made possible in part by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Just announced, Manhattan Theatre Club will produce the world premiere of Sugar in Our Wounds, a new play by Donja R. Love and directed by Saheem Ali (Twelfth Night for the Public Theater's Mobile Unit), as part of MTC's upcoming 2017-2018 season.

Lantern Theater Company announced today that its record-breaking 2016/17 season closing production of The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord will extend its run to meet audience demand and will now close on Sunday, July 9, 2017. Award-winning playwright James Ijames' "Kill Move Paradise" opened Saturdayto a standing ovation at Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT). Directed by Saheem Ali, the show starring Ryan Jamaal Swain, Donnell E. Smith, Clinton Lowe and Sidiki Fofana follows victims of police brutality, vigilante justice and racist acts as they suddenly arrive in an otherworld.

Lantern Theater Company concludes its record-breaking 2016/17 season with the regional premiere of The Gospel According to Thomas Jefferson, Charles Dickens and Count Leo Tolstoy: Discord, an uproarious, razor-sharp exploration of legacy and faith from playwright, former stand-up comedian, and longtime Real Time with Bill Maher writer and executive producer Scott Carter.

Theatre Horizon opened the World Premiere of James Ijames' smart and hilarious WHITE. On the evening of its official opening, the theatre is excited to announce that WHITE will now have an extension week and close Sunday, May 28. Winner of the 2015 Terrence McNally New Play Award, WHITE already had sold out performances.

Due to strong advance sales, Cherry Lane Theatre will add three performances to Jocelyn Bioh's NOLLYWOOD DREAMS, the final presentation of its Obie award-winning MENTOR PROJECT. 

Ally is thrilled to welcome Miz Washington playwright and 2017 Whiting Award Winner, James Ijames to the show on Sunday, April 30th. James will participate in a post-show talkback with the cast after the 3PM Matinee.

Ryan Jamaal Swain, Donnell E. Smith, Clinton Lowe and Sidiki Fofana will star in the award-winning playwright James Ijames' "Kill Move Paradise," opening at Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) this spring. The world premiere production is also the New York City debut of Ijames, a Whiting Award winner. Saheem Ali ("Nollywood," "The Booty Call," and "The Erlkings") will direct. The provocative production closes the historic theater's 48th season, "In Pursuit of Black Joy," and runs from May 31 through June 25.

The Public Theater will begin previews for the MOBILE UNIT's TWELFTH NIGHT on Monday, April 24. Directed by Saheem Ali, the sit-down run of Twelfth Night follows a free three-week tour to the five boroughs bringing Shakespeare to audiences who have limited or no access to the arts.

Lantern Theater Company will host Rite of Spring on Monday, May 1, 2017 at 6 p.m., a festive evening to celebrate the company's record-breaking 2016/17 season and to present the 2017 Luminary Award to the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, O.S.A, PhD, in recognition of his significant contributions to the performing arts in Philadelphia.

Cherry Lane Theatre will end its Obie award-winning MENTOR PROJECT 2017 season with Jocelyn Bioh's NOLLYWOOD DREAMS, directed by Saheem Ali and mentored by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.

Theatre Horizon's 12th season concludes with a World Premiere by a Philadelphia favorite. The theatre is presenting the World Premiere of James Ijames' smart and hilarious WHITE.
