The Drama League announced today the 2020 line-up of DirectorFest: The 36th Annual Directors Festival, the only festival in the United States dedicated to the art of contemporary stage directing. For its 36th year, the festival will include six fully-staged productions, a showcase concert of a new musical, a town hall, and conversations with directors including 2017 Tony Award Winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent), 2014 Tony Award Winner and 2010 Drama League Founders Award for Excellence in Directing Kenny Leon (A Soldier's Play), and Intimacy Director Claire Warden (HBO's Mrs. Fletcher).

Charlotte's Off Broadway (Producer, Anne Lambert) is very happy to welcome April Armstrong (Ragtime, Carousel) to the company for the Off-Broadway premiere of Confidence (and The Speech), a new play, written by Susan Lambert Hatem and directed by Hannah Ryan (Hamilton, An American in Paris). Ms. Armstrong will portray President Jimmy Carter (replacing the previously announced Denise Burse) for a limited engagement at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street a?" between 9th & 10th Avenues). Previews will begin on Thursday, November 14 at 8pm with an official opening on Wednesday, November 20th at 8pm. Performances will continue through December 7th.

The Drama League has announced the twelve stage directors who have been selected as the 2019 Directing Fellows of The Drama League Directors Project: NJ Agwuna, Sharifa Elkady, Raz Golden, Chika Ike, Rebecca Marzalek-Kelly, Ismael Lara, Jr., Amanda McRaven, Lindsey Hope Pearlman, Ben Randle, Tai Thompson, Gabriel Torres, and Sophia Watt. They will be publicly introduced to the professional theatre community during the 85th Annual Drama League Awards, which will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square (1535 Broadway). The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) has announced the theater directors chosen to develop new plays and musicals as part of the 2019 Drama League Artist Residency Program. Public work-in-progress presentations of each residency will be held periodically throughout the year at The Drama League Theater Center, 32 Avenue of the Americas, in Tribeca. The Tony Award-winning An American in Paris welcomes Matthew Scott to the role of Adam Hochberg beginning tonight, Tuesday, August 9.

Director Joshua Chase Gold has been selected to be the 2016 SDCF Charles Abbott Fellow. He will be assisting Charles Abbott on his production of South Pacific at Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, PA.

A new production of THE GUYS, a play by Anne Nelson, opens tonight, Jan. 20, and will honor the 150th Anniversary of the New York Fire Department, Father Mychal Judge, OFM, the first certified fatality in the September 11, 2001 attacks and the Lt. Joseph G. Leavey Foundation. The play will begin at 7:30pm at the Davenport Theatre, a converted firehouse on West 45th Street, and will run through Jan. 23.

The Drama League will celebrate a major milestone tonight that few organizations have achieved…its 100th year of service to the American theatre community. The 100th Birthday Party will be held tonight,January 11, 2016 at Feinstein's/54 Below (254 West 54th Street, Cellar).  The sold-out celebration will include cocktails, dinner, speeches and musical performances recognizing the history, achievements, and future of the award-winning arts education organization.

On Wednesday, Nov. 11 at noon, Manhattan College will host a performance of "The Guys," an off-Broadway play by Anne Nelson, directed by Hannah Ryan, associate director of the 2015 Tony Award winner The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time. The play tells the story of Manhattan College alumnus Lt. Joseph G. Leavey of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY).
