'I and the Village' is a dark coming-of-age story that explores the actions of a young girl, an outsider in her small American town, who breaks under the strain of underachieved orthodoxy and enters into an armed battle against society. The RTC production at the Community Arts Workshop this weekend will be the play's American debut. '(It) asks us to examine our society's reaction to non-conformity and people who are different,' says RTC actor Lucan Nelson. 'It also asks open questions about America's casual gun use. Any American community will see themselves in this script.'
Flint, Michigan has a new theatre company. The Flint Theatre Guild is producing a Summer Theater Festival in the Black Box Theater at the University of Michigan-Flint. The festival will consist of three productions staged practically back-to back and it opens Thursday, July 11th with the Tom Stoppard classic 'The Real Inspector Hound.'
The reviews are in for COMMUNICATING DOORS at Santa Barbara City College! A hilarious comedy by Alan Ayckbourn, COMMUNICATING DOORS opened on March 2nd, and will run through March 17th.
Alan Ayckbourne's 'Communicating Doors,' produced by the SBCC Theatre Group, follows Poopay (Felicia Hall), a blue-collar London dominatrix who shows up at a luxury hotel to service wealthy business mogul, Reece (Matt Smith), but instead gets pressured into witnessing his deathbed confession of embezzlement and murder. On the run from Reece's homicidal business partner, Julian (George Coe), who isn't keen on being outed for his part in the murder of Reece's two deceased wives, Ruella (Leslie Gangle Howe) and Jessica (Brittany Harter), Poopay hides in a hotel closet. The closet houses a time portal that takes her back twenty years to the night of Ruella's murder, in the very same hotel suite. Poopay and Ruella team up to prevent the murder, thus changing the past and altering the future for everyone.
