Dallas Opera Announces 2022-23 Season

Programming for The Dallas Opera’s 2022/2023 Season was announced today by Ian Derrer, The Dallas Opera’s Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO, and Emmanuel Villaume, the Mrs. Eugene McDermott Music Director, in celebration of the company’s 65th Anniversary.

Puccini's MADAMA BUTTERFLY to Return to The Met

One of Puccini’s most popular operas, Madama Butterfly, returns to the Met for eleven performances, March 19–May 7. Set in Japan at the turn of the 20th century, the revival of Anthony Minghella’s evocative staging draws inspiration from traditional Japanese theater with brilliant stagecraft, bold colors, and Bunraku puppetry to tell the heartbreaking tale of doomed love.

Soprano Eleonora Buratto takes on the touchstone title role of the tragic geisha, following earlier Met successes as Norina in Don Pasquale and Liù in Turandot. Tenor Brian Jagde is the callous American naval officer who betrays her, alongside mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong as her devoted maid Suzuki and baritone David Bizic as the consul Sharpless. Alexander Soddy conducts Anthony Minghella’s evocative, ever-popular staging.

The Cleveland Orchestra announces its 2022 Blossom Music Festival season presented by The J.M. Smucker Co. with a lineup of concerts. Nineteen concerts are currently part of the 2022 Blossom Music Festival, which runs from the Fourth of July through Labor Day weekend (July 2 – September 4) at the Orchestra’s scenic summer home nestled in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Subscriptions are on sale now, with individual tickets available for purchase on Monday, April 4.

It took until 2018 for Glyndebourne to stage Puccini's Madama Butterfly after touring with it in 2016. Puccini's luscious score transports the audience to a world full of Japanese cherry blossom where a beautiful young girl pines for the man who has left her. However, it remains deeply problematic.
