BWW Review: ROSMERSHOLM, Duke of York's Theatre

As politicians and pundits dissect the local election results, Duncan Macmillan serves up a blistering new adaptation of an 1886 work that feels eerily like a 2019 commentary. Move over, James Graham - it turns out Ibsen has supplied the political play for today.

BWW Review: Uplifting EVERY BRILLIANT THING Shines at Milwaukee Repertory Theater

When a play is as aptly named as this one, it makes my job a breeze. It's not just the "brilliant" part; it's also the "every." From the supremely engaging Scott Greer to the perfectly-sentimental script by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe to the overall format of the evening, under the direction of Terrence J. Nolen, there's no end to the brilliance of 'Every Brilliant Thing.'

BWW REVIEW: EVERY BRILLIANT THING Is A Engaging And Moving Theatre Experience That Encourages Conversation Around Mental Illness and Suicide.

The weighty subject of suicide is considered with compassion and comedy in Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe's one performer play EVERY BRILLIANT THING.  Performer Kate Mulvany, under direction by Kate Champion and Steve Rodgers, brings a beautiful warmth and sensitivity to a story that reminds the audience of the need to talk about mental illness not relegate it to taboo or gossip.

BWW Review: Tennessee Women's Theater Project's EVERY BRILLIANT THING Offers Unique Theater Experience

By turns wonderfully funny and achingly poignant, Every Brilliant Thing - Tennessee Women's Theater Project's mounting of Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahue's one-actor play about dealing with the suicide of one's mother - offers Nashville audiences a unique method by which to examine the effects of depression and surviving the loss of a loved one. Starring notable local actor Becky Wahlstrom, what ensues is not quite a monologue, nor is it (for all intents and purposes) a one-woman show (or what one expects from such an offering) due to its clever and imaginative structure that ensures every audience member becomes intimately involved in what transpires in a scant one-hour of stage time.
