The 15th Annual New York International Fringe Festival will present the premiere of the new play SAMMY GETS MUGGED!, by award-winning writer Dan Heching, from August 15 to 28. Directed by Noah Himmelstein, the cast features Stephanie Pope Caffey (Broadway's Chicago, Fosse and more), Patrick Byas ('Law & Order: SVU') and Mr. Heching.
Roundabout Theatre Company opened Death Takes a Holiday last night, July 21, 2011 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. As reported yesterday, leading man Julian Ovenden was unable take part in the opening because of a case of laryngitis. His understdy, Kevin Earley, stepped in to play the role of Prince Sirki/Death. He will remain in the show until Ovenden returns, which is expected to be sometime next week.

Roundabout Theatre Company's production of the new musical, Death Takes a Holiday began performances on Friday, June 10, 2011 and opened on July 21, 2011 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46th Street). Death Takes a Holiday will play a limited engagement through September 4, 2011. This production marks the second time a new musical has been presented in this theatrical space, following the recent production of The Tin Pan Alley Rag.

Michael Reidel reports in the New York Post this morning that Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson star Benjamin Walker will be back in the New York theater loop when he leads a reading of Bus Stop next month as cowboy Bo Decker. Amanda Seyfried will co-star alongside Walker as Cherie. Shuler Hensley will also participate. Hollywood's Paula Wagner, who owns the rights to the project will produce. Scott Ellis directs. A revival of Bus Stop is reportedly bound for Broadway.

Stage Left Theatre announces the upcoming Chicago Premiere of Farragut North written by Beau Willimon and directed by Artistic Director Vance Smith. Farragut North is the first production of Stage Left's 30th season. Press opening is Thursday, September 7th at 8 PM, and the show runs through October 9th.

Jason Moore has withdrawn as director of Suicide, Incorporated as a result of his filming schedule for the new musical comedy film Pitch Perfect.

Ted Sod: How did you come to work in the theatre?
Chris Isaacson and Upright Cabaret proudly present the West Coast debut of Broadway diva and 'Saturday Night Live' alum Ana Gasteyer in Elegant Songs from a Handsome Woman in a limited engagement of three shows only, August 11-13, at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood. Showtime is 8:30pm, with dinner and drink service beginning at 7pm. Gasteyer brings her unique comic wit and style to the stage in her new classy, brassy and sassy club act, featuring Broadway ditties, beloved (if forgotten) standards, and movie melodies.

Producers Jeffrey Finn and Jill Furman announced today that two-time Tony Award nominee, Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner Alan Rickman (Private Lives, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, the Harry Potter franchise) will make his eagerly-anticipated return to Broadway starring in the World Premiere of SEMINAR, a new play by Theresa Rebeck (Mauritius, The Understudy, Omnium Gatherum, The Family of Mann, Spike Heels, NBC's upcoming 'Smash'). Directed by acclaimed Obie Award winner Sam Gold (Circle Mirror Transformation, The Aliens, Tigers Be Still, Kin, The Coward) in his Broadway debut, the production will open at a Shubert Theatre to be announced this Fall 2011.
After garnering some of the best reviews of the season, Born Yesterday is set to close following the matinee on Sunday, June 26; it will have played 28 previews and 73 performances. The production, which stars Jim Belushi, Robert Sean Leonard, and Nina Arianda, opened Sunday, April 24, at Broadway's Cort Theatre, 138 West 48 Street. Doug Hughes directed the classic Garson Kanin comedy.
