Musical Theatre Factory Tune In Tuesdays continues on May 5 with Douglas Lyons and Ethan Pakchar's BEAU. In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 40 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2020 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. All is well at the funeral until it's revealed that Bernard had not just two daughters, but three. Wig pins loosen, as truths emerge, leaving this African-American family to confront their skeletons head on; naturally with lots of love, shade, and prayer along the way.
The National Arts Club has selected Inda Craig-Galván for the 2019 Kesselring Prize for playwriting, for her tragicomic play Black Super Hero Magic Mama about a mother who magically turns into a super hero while mourning the shooting death of her unarmed teenage son by police. Craig-Galván officially receives the award, which includes $25,000 from the Club's Kesselring Fund and a residency at the historic clubhouse, during a special ceremony and reception. The evening features a staged reading of her work, directed by Michael Parva of The Directors Company, followed by a reception.
Christine Boylan (THE PUNISHER, LEVERAGE), Ellie Pyle (SOURCES, BEGINNINGS), and Ryan McCurdy (ONCE, PIP'S ISLAND) have announced the official addition of a New York chapter to Bespoke Plays, which will make it the only bicoastal production company dedicated to industry readings of new plays. Boylan and Pyle will continue to co-produce Los Angeles with McCurdy as the New York associate.
