Savannah Rep has announced casting for their production of Empanada Loca opening September 7th. Diany Rodrigues will lead this spine-tingling play that inspired a podcast as well as a television series (The Horrors of Dolores Roach) and have thrilled audiences across multiple media platforms.

In “The Valet,” world famous movie star, Olivia (Samara Weaving) faces a PR disaster when a paparazzi snaps a photo of her with her married lover, Vincent (Max Greenfield). The hard-working valet Antonio (Eugenio Derbez) accidentally appears in the same photo and is enlisted to pose as Olivia’s new boyfriend as a cover up.

Nearly seventeen months have passed since the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre has packed its house with an indoor event. With the reopening of venues around the nation, the Anderson Theatre is celebrating its return to form with CHESS, a concert which has not been seen in Atlanta in over twenty years.

Additionally, in a previously unannounced supporting role, Reggaeton superstar Lunay is set to make his film acting debut. 

Cobb County PARKS and the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre will be streaming NINE: The  Musical on-demand, June 3-6.

Whitney Rowland's new play, Wayfinding, is a “magical realism melancholic comedy” that uses the concept of “time bending” to shape the characters' journeys to unexpected destinations. Jane (Sarah Wallis) is an emotionally-numbed new widow. Harrison (Ben Thorpe) is Les's (Charlie T. Thomas) inattentive, self-sabotaging fiancé. In seeking escape, these two strangers collide – both literally and figuratively – tangling their lifelines and setting them on a journey involving an intercontinental plane crash, a magical forest, and a choice that leads them both to an unexpected destination. Wayfinding runs through March 29, 2020 at Synchronicity Theatre.

Out of Hand will produce Atlanta Theater Dinner, a facilitated conversation about race and equity in the Atlanta Theater community launched by an original short play created for the event. Atlanta Theater Dinner will be held on February 10, 2020 at 6:30pm in partnership with One Small Change/Both And. The evening will be hosted by The Bakery in their brand-new space in Underground Atlanta, New Square, at 76 Wall Street SW.

Putting on a brand-new, original musical can be a daunting and challenging task for any theatre company. If you're doing a golden oldie such as, say, Camelot, you have a familiar score, and just about everyone knows the songs. Then again, Camelot was new once and someone had to give it a go, so I applaud the Alliance Theatre for kicking off their 50th anniversary season with Nick's Flamingo Grill, a new jazz musical written by Atlanta playwright Phillip DePoy. The show fits very nicely into the Hertz Stage, a beautiful black box space with the stage in the center and audience members on either side, making the story an intimate experience and getting all of us to feel as though we are the jazz club audience during the musical numbers. And what numbers they are! But more on that later.

The Alliance Theatre is pleased to present the world premiere production of Nick's Flamingo Grill, by award-winning Atlanta playwright and author Phillip DePoy.  Nick's Flamingo Grill is inspired by the true story of the first integrated jazz club in Atlanta and will debut on the Hertz Stage September 29 - October 28, 2018.  Opening night is Thursday, October 4.
