“Concert On The Lawn” Kicks Off 61st Monterey Jazz Festival

Monterey Jazz Festival kicks off the weekend's activities on Thursday, September 20 with another edition of the "Concert on the Lawn" at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, with Monterey Jazz Festival's Next Generation Jazz Orchestra performing a free 45-minute set for 500 students enrolled in Monterey County schools. The concert will start at 11am on Thursday, September 20 at the Garden Stage at the Monterey County Fair & Event Center.

NYO Jazz Performs At Carnegie Hall Friday, 8/27

Carnegie Hall's new national youth jazz orchestra, NYO Jazz, featuring 22 gifted young jazz musicians from across the country, ages 16-19, representing 16 states-will make its Carnegie Hall debut this Friday, July 27 at 8:00 p.m. NYO Jazz's performance features bandleader and trumpeter Sean Jones, alongside Grammy Award-winning vocalist Dianne Reeves and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon. The program will range from big band standards to the first Carnegie Hall-commissioned works for NYO Jazz, a new piece by saxophonist Miguel Zenon and several new arrangements, as well as other contemporary pieces that explore jazz's influence on hip-hop, R&B, and pop music.

Carnegie Hall Brings Together America's Finest Young Musicians For NYO-USA, NYO2, And NYO Jazz

This July, Carnegie Hall will bring together more than 200 of the finest young musicians from across the country to take part in its acclaimed trio of national youth ensembles: the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), NYO2, and NYO Jazz, a new group that makes its debut this summer, celebrating this uniquely American musical art form. All three ensembles will take part in an intensive training residency at Purchase College, State University of New York before performing at Carnegie Hall and embarking on tours across the country and around the world, serving as America's dynamic musical ambassadors. In total, the musicians of NYO-USA, NYO2, and NYO Jazz represent 36 US states plus Puerto Rico, reflecting both the highest level of musical talent as well as exceptional diversity found across the country. All three programs are free for all participants, ensuring that all aspiring young players who are accepted have the opportunity to take part.

Da Camera Announces New Leadership

At Da Camera Society of Texas' annual meeting this week, the organization's Board of Directors announced the realignment of its management structure. Sarah Rothenberg, who is celebrating her 25th anniversary as artistic director in the 2018-19 season and who has served as artistic and general director since 2011, will continue as the organization's artistic director. The current interim director of administration, Toni Capra, has been named to the newly created position of executive director effective July 1, 2018.

Throughout the upcoming 2018-2019 season, the Carnegie Hall Citywide concert series will bring more than thirty free performances by top classical, jazz, world, and popular music artists to seventeen different venues across New York City. Presented in partnership with local community organizations, Carnegie Hall Citywide showcases outstanding mainstage artists and rising stars across a wide variety of genres, tapping into the pulse of the city and bringing people together to share in the joy of music.
