Florida Repertory Theatre raised $1,200,222 at its March 28 gala at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center, the highest total in the theatre's 28-year history, with over 300 guests attending.
Stages has revealed its 2026–27 season, a selection of beloved musicals, award-winning dramas and comedies, and bold contemporary works that celebrate the power of storytelling and community.
Denise Fennell Pasqualone shares so much of herself in THE BRIDE that it just feels like a hug from the actress. There are laughs, teary moments, and even a random game show thrown in for good measure.
When you set out to create something, a piece of theater, you don't say to yourself, I'm gonna create something universal that everybody's gonna relate to. You just write what you know; you write your own story, and we found that the specifics of our quirky little union became universal.
I try to inform Houstonians about all the shows happening in and around the Houston area, as it can be daunting to keep track of them. I also include upcoming auditions for all talented actors in the area.
This is the first time Denise Fennell is playing herself, and it only took fifty years to get her here into the role she was born to play. She’s most known in Houston for donning a habit and chastising audiences about major holidays as Sister in the Late Night Catechism Series. Yet this show is where she is truly a revelation!
Florida Repertory Theatre will present “‘Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3,” an interactive comedy by Maripat Donovan, in the ArtStage Studio Theatre. Learn more!
Florida Repertory Theatre has reveaaled its 28th season in the Historic Arcade and ArtStage Studio Theatres which open to previews on September 30, 2025. See the lineup of performances and learn how to purchase tickets.
Denise Fennell is just a delight in this role, and she plays off the audience so well that you would swear Sister is a real person. I can’t praise her performance enough. She can handle anyone, anytime, and mine every audience for comedic gold.
Sister is back again at Stages Houston, instructing one last catechism class before the church Christmas party commences. Originated by Maripat Donovan, who originally played Sister, and a writing partner or two over the years, this uproarious one-woman show is now brilliantly helmed by Denise Fennell, who absolutely sparkles. So take your hands out of your pockets, answer politely and stand up when you’re being called on!
For the “Late Nite Catechism” series of shows, actors dress up as a character named “Sister” and lead their audiences through a “class” full of audience interaction. Denise Fennell-Pasqualone has been performing as 'Sister' for many years now, but–for this specific show–she preaches about St. Patrick's Day in the most exuberant and comedic way.
I just am so grateful. Stages really produced this one for me. So I'm super excited about that. That I could give this to this theater community, and for the rest of the world to know forever and always. That Irish Catechism originated here in Houston, and it will be developed here over the next six weeks, judging from my last preview performances and opening last night. This one is next level, next level!
Up next at Stages, 'Sister's Irish Catechism: Saints, Snakes, And Green Milkshakes' will run from January 26-March 17, 2024 on the Smith Stage. Written by Maripat Donovan, this brand-new catechism-that is a bit more green-will treat Houstonians to a divine dose of laughter as Denise Fennell ('Late Nite Catechism' series, 'Shear Madness,' 'The Bride') returns to her legendary role as Sister.
Walking into Stages for the first time, I was not sure what I was getting myself into. All of a sudden, Denise Fennell sprinted onto the stage in a huge wedding dress and asked the big question present in the show's title: 'Does this dress make me look married?' The wonderful rollercoaster of THE BRIDE began in that moment, and I was captivated.

In 2019, the Gracie Theatre presented 'Til Death Do Us Part: Late Nite Catechism 3. Based on the enthusiastic audience response to this production, the Gracie Theatre decided to bring the first play in the series to Bangor on Saturday, February 29, 2020 with two performances at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The show features all new lessons by Sister Mary Christina for her 'adult catechism class' that will resonate with Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
To the delight of the audience she covers horror movies, several ghastly tales of the saints, and even unleashes a fashion show where you can dress up as an unlucky martyr to go trick or treating. It's fast, it's funny, and also has a gentle soul that should find even the most diehard Catholics embracing the ways of Sister.
