The Tony Award-winning Alley Theatre has announced the cast and creative team of The Odyssey, written by Nobel Prize Winner Derek Walcott. This adventure classic infused with Afro-Caribbean elements runs March 24 – April 16, 2023 in the Neuhaus Theatre and is directed by Christopher Windom.

The Tony Award-winning Alley Theatre is a recipient of a 20,000 NEA Grant for Arts Projects. This month, the grant will support the launch of a new initiative that culminates during Afro-Caribbean poet and Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott's, The Odyssey. Heroes Within: A Celebration of Victorious Journeys, is a project connecting the Epic play's hero's journey to the heroic experiences pertinent to Houston's Black community.

Alley Theatre is holding understudy auditions for Cambodian Rock Band via digital submissions. Auditions will be for AEA and Non-AEA adult actors, ages 18 and older.

Alley Theatre has announced Cambodian Rock Band as the second Hubbard production in the 2022-23 season. Co-producing with Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Signature Theatre Production of Cambodian Rock Band is by Lauren Yee, featuring songs by Dengue Fever, and directed by Chay Yew and runs from January 20 – February 12, 2023.

The Alley Theatre announces the line-up for the 2022 Alley All New Festival, June 16 - June 26, 2022. The Festival will feature five new plays including readings, workshop performances, and an early draft preview. Festival playwrights include Monet Hurst-Mendoza, Austin-based Kirk Lynn completing a Thornton Wilder work, Kemp Powers, Don X. Nguyen, and Alley commissioned artist and Houstonian ShaWanna Renee Rivon. 

The Tony Award-winning Alley Theatre has announced the cast and creative team of Liz Duffy Adam’s world premiere Born with Teeth. The play is directed by Artistic Director Rob Melrose and runs May 6 – June 5, 2022 in the Neuhaus Theatre. Developed in the Alley All New Reading Series, Born with Teeth now makes its world premiere this season.

A Christmas Carol is an age-old classic that tells the story of redemption and the importance of love and compassion. It follows a man, Ebeneezer Scrooge, known for his greed and cruelty to others. Following the visits of an old friend, and three timely spirits, Ebeneezer is shown what his greed and cruelty will lead to if he does not turn from his stubborn ways. In the third and final visit, Ebeneezer realizes that the outcome he is shown is not the outcome he wants and so he chooses to humble himself and allow kindness to dictate the way he interacts with others. This changes his life and the lives of those around him.

The Alley Theatre's free digital production of The Man with the Flower in His Mouth is now available to view and has been extended through March 21, 2021 due to the winter storm in Texas.

The Tony Award®-winning Alley Theatre and Artistic Director Rob Melrose have announced updates to the Theatrea??s 74th season. The 2020-21 season programming, the second season curated by Rob Melrose, will feature world premiere plays developed as a part of the Alley All New program, a twist on a holiday favorite, a major world classic, and plays by award-winning contemporary voices.

With the Houston Astros now in the World Series - The Alley Theatre wanted to show their support for the hometeam and asked their Houston theatre friends to play ball.

The Alley Theatre and Managing Director Dean Gladden announced today the appointment of Deborah Lackey as the new Director of Development. Lackey most recently served as the Chief Advancement Officer for the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and has more than 25 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising management with cultural, healthcare, education, and social service organizations. She assumes one of two leadership positions at the Alley along with the recent appointment of Artistic Director Rob Melrose.
