National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced today that the Alley Theatre is one of 832 non-profit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The Alley Theatre will receive a $50,000 grant to support the upcoming production of Kenneth Lin's Warrior Class as part of the Alley Theatre's New Play Initiative.
Due to a health problem, Alley veteran James Black is unable to perform the role of Willy Loman in the Alley Theatre's current production of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. Everyone is confident that he will make a full recovery and will be able to return to the Alley stages in future productions.

The reading will be Monday, September 10 at 7:30 PM.

Four recent college graduates joined the Alley Theatre staff in December as the first members of the Alley Theatre's Fitzpatrick Internship program. This program was created as a tribute to Bettye Fitzpatrick, who has been integral to the success of the Alley working for over 50 years as a stage manager, production manager, director of interns and most notably as a member of the Acting Company before her retirement in 2009.
WONDERLAND: A New Alice. A New Musical Adventure will open on Broadway Sunday, April 17, 2011 and performances will begin Monday, March 21, at a Nederlander theatre to be announced. The musical will be directed by Gregory Boyd, the artistic director of the Alley Theatre in Houston, Texas, with a book by Gregory Boyd and Jack Murphy (The Civil War -Tony nomination) and lyrics by Jack Murphy, music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde - Grammy nomination, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Civil War - Tony nomination, Dracula, Victor/Victoria) and choreography by Marguerite Derricks (Fame, Emmy Awards for '3rd Rock From The Sun' and 'Fame LA'). Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts (Judy Lisi, President and CEO) in Tampa, Florida January 4 through January 16, 2011.
Alley Theatre Managing Director Dean R. Gladden announced today the appointment of Nancy Giles as the new Development Director of Houston's Alley Theatre. Giles, the former Vice President/Chief Development Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston for the past 2 years, assumed the position on September 28.
