Next month, FEINSTEIN’S/54 BELOW, Broadway’s Supper Club & Private Event Destination, presents some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond.
THIS YEAR to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the show’s Broadway Opening, and their friendship, JAMES CANNING joins Ilene and Carole for a fun get-together, bringing music of the season plus stories, laughs and songs saluting the iconic GREASE they originated. Music Direction by Ian Herman. Engineered by Stuart Allyn.
THERESE LEE makes her New York debut with her new show, RIDING THE BUS TO THE RED CARPET. In it, she recalls her days in Los Angeles as an entertainment reporter too broke to own a car, and shares what her interactions with some of Hollywood's biggest stars during that time did to change her life forever.
Feinstein's/54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Dawn Derow in “Dawn Derow Sings Eydie Gormé” on March 8, 2022 at 7 PM. There is a pantheon of great American women vocalists of the 20th century that we know by simply saying their first name—Judy, Ella, Aretha, Barbra, Billie, Peggy, Patsy, Liza, Whitney, Celine. Another name belongs on that list, but it is often forgotten: EYDIE . . . as in GORME.
The show is a musical answer to the question, “Can two women of a certain age do a show together without driving each other crazy?” The ammunition is an eclectic song list from yesterday and today, from Kander and Ebb to Carole King, Stephen Sondheim to Billy Stritch, and from Tom Lehrer and Garth Brooks to Cy Coleman and David Zippel.
he Green Room 42 has announced their January line-up for in-person performances in addition to launching reWINEd, a new streaming series where you can rewatch some favorite recent shows paired with at-home drink recommendations from each artist.
The audience may have been masked but nothing could mask the joy, admiration, excitement, and love in the Wick Theater for Marilyn Maye, arguably the world’s greatest Cabaret artist. Nicolas King the young super singer, over a half century behind Marilyn shared the stage with her and made this engagement an historic evening of music.
On December 10, ZOHO Music, a latin, jazz, and rock indie CD label, is releasing the studio recorded CD version of My Ship: Songs From 1941, which Dawn Derow will celebrate with a One-Night-Only return of the award-winning show at New York's Green Room 42 on January 15, 2022 at 7 pm.
While Susie is getting her out-of-town gig on, Klea Blackhurst is filling in at The Lineup and, from the looks of it, the weekly variety show is in great hands.
Over the past two months, Jim Caruso’s Cast Party has been packing Birdland with throngs of music and theater lovers eager to cheer the return of the show biz scene. Fans of Broadway, jazz, country, and the Great American Songbook have been delighted by the impromptu talent that has consistently shown up to entertain.
Carole J. Bufford returned to the Birdland stage with 'Poets and Pickers,” celebrating the work of some of the world’s most unique storytellers in song. Featuring Peter Calo on guitar and Chris Marshak on drums, Carole performed songs by Paul Simon, Randy Newman, Irving Berlin, Bobbie Gentry, Cole Porter, Johnny Cash, John Prine, and more.
Featuring new performers with every show, the weekly, award-winning Piano Bar Live! (PBL!) streams this Tuesday, June 8 at 7:15 pm ET, with host Scott Barbarino and guests Dawn Derow, Jeremie Michael, Chuck Flowers, David LaMarr and Darnell White plus Mystery Guests and MORE!
Dawn Derow knows how to work anticipation to her advantage, and when the lockdown was lifted and the clubs started to reopen, the first thing she did was plan for her new show to, finally, play for the audience that so anxiously awaited it.
Producers N’Kenge and Richard Bell will present a private industry reading of “Dorothy Dandridge: The Musical” the true story of Hollywood’s very first African- American movie star, with book & lyrics by 2-time Emmy Award winner Trey Ellis, music & lyrics by Shelton Becton and directed by Tony Award winner Tamara Tunie.
Dawn Derow lit up The West Bank Cafe with a very eclectic mix of favorite golden-age Broadway standards, newer Broadway sounds, pop songs, and even a touch of the operatic. Ms. Derow has a voice that is warm and as comforting as an old friend. She is capable of soprano arias and smokey torch songs and navigates both equally well. I was particularly impressed by her Bassa-nova-tinged version of George Benson’s “This Masquerade,” and her Sweet Dreams,” in which she managed to evoke Patsy Cline without imitating her.
Fourteen months after her new show was to premiere in New York City, Dawn Derow is ready to go - live and virtually - and nothing is going to stop her, even if it means moving the back to the city where it was set to originate, at the last minute.
As Manhattan re-opens, the clubs are offering live music once more. 42nd Street hot spot The Westbank Cafe has some fine talent lined up for their guests.
Bistro and MAC-award winner Dawn Derow is debuting her latest cabaret performance, GYPSY IN MY SOUL: Dawn Derow Sings Eydie Gormé on Sunday, May 23rd at The Bijou Theatre.
