The Fulton Theatre’s production of Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical is a masterclass in theatrical artistry, showcasing remarkable talent both on and off the stage. From the haunting streets of Victorian London brought to life by scenic designer William James Mohney, to Paul Black’s evocative lighting, and Ryan J. Moller’s period-perfect costumes, the production is a visual and auditory feast.

If any company in the area can be said to have a formula for its seasons, that is a fair assessment of Saint Vincent Summer Theatre's usual years: a farce, a revue of pre-rock songs from stage and screen, and then a Roger Bean style nostalgic jukebox musical.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar opened at the Fulton recently, just in time for the Lenten season. Aaron Lavigne stars as a relatively subdued Jesus. I would have liked to have seen more emotional range displayed in scenes like the cleansing of the temple and in numbers like the emotional gut punch of 'Gethsemane'.
Leading the cast of Jesus Christ Superstar as Judas and Jesus are David Toole and Matías De La Flor. Kristina Leopold (Broadway: SIX) and Mamie Parris (Broadway: Cats, School of Rock) join as Mary Magdalene and Pontius Pilate. Watch a video!

Fulton has done some remarkable small-scale musicals on their fourth floor stage. Shows like Next to Normal and Five Guys Named Moe easily prove that not every show needs to have a big cast or a bigger budget to be entertaining and engaging. Unfortunately, The Last 5 Years isn’t in that same category for me.
