Yesterday, December 12, New York Stage and Film presented their Annual Winter Gala. Top theatrical talent paid tribute to honorees Laura Linney (Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning actress) and Jordan Roth (President of Jujamcyn Theaters) at The Plaza Hotel including Steven Pasquale, Rebecca Naomi Jones and John Gallagher, Jr., and cast members from Spring Awakening, Hair and American Idiot. Syfy has enlisted Alphas (working title) to join its slate of original scripted series by greenlighting the wry, action-adventure project from writers Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk) and Michael Karnow, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Content, Syfy and Co-Head of Original Content for Universal Cable Productions. Eleven episodes have been ordered in addition to the 90-minute pilot directed by Jack Bender (director and executive producer of Lost). Universal Cable Productions will produce the series with BermanBraun Television. Executive Producers are Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein for BermanBraun and Zak Penn.

Julie Taymor is at the helm of a new film adaptation of THE TEMPEST, to be released nationwide December 17. The film was shot in Hawaii with stars Helen Mirren (Prospera), Alfred Molina (Stephano), Ben Whishaw (Ariel), FeliciTy Jones (Miranda), Russell Brand (Trinculo), Djimon Hounsou (Caliban), Alan Cumming (Sebastian), Chris Cooper (Antonio), and David Strathairn (Alonso).

David Strathairn and Melissa Friedman will star in this play about the controversial relationship between Jewish political theorist Hannah Arendt and her mentor and lover, Martin Heidegger, the renowned philosopher who used his fame and brilliance to help further the goals of the Nazi party.
