The Outer Critics Circle (OCC), the official organization of writers on New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers and national publications, has announced the winners of the 71st Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards, honoring the 2021-2022 Broadway and Off-Broadway season.

Nominations for the 66th Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced today, and the full list of nominees is available here as well as information on who was eligible.

Today's top stories include Mrs. Doubtfire setting a closing date, which was announced last night. The show will play its final performance on May 29. The New York Drama Critics' Circle today named Samuel D. Hunter’s A Case for the Existence of God best play of the 2021-22 season. The award for best musical went to David Lindsay-Abaire’s and Jeanine Tesori’s Kimberly Akimbo. The selections were made at the organization’s 86th annual voting meeting.

Theatrical licensor Music Theatre International (MTI) announced the release of Dramatic Moments, the first product from MTI Classroom, which is an inspiring collaboration between theatre teachers, students, authors and industry professionals designed to elevate arts education. The Pulitzer Prize Board has just announced that Fat Ham has won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Other finalists included: Selling Kabul, and Kristina Wong, Sweatshop Overlord.

Nasty will be nice and Lake Oswego will be ogre-the-moon when Lakewood Theatre Company musical theatre students present a production of Shrek, The Musical JR. May 14-15, 2022, directed by Julie Lane.

Pulitzer Prize winning play fails to overcome its insularity and engage its audience

Shrek The Musical JR. opens at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church on April 30, 2022. This upside down-fairy tale adventure follows an ogre named Shrek who has learned the hard way that “people hate the things they cannot understand.” One day, his peaceful swamp is disturbed by new tenants: fairytale misfits who have been banished there by the villainous Lord Farquaad. In order to gain back his land, Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to rescue the feisty princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fierce dragon. Setting off with his faithful companion, Donkey, Shrek begins the journey of a lifetime filled with adventure, romance, and hilarity.

Today, The 24 Hour Plays announced that the 11th annual application for The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals are now open and will run through April 18, 2022. The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals will take place in person in NYC for the first time since 2019.

Broadway hits are back at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre this upcoming 2022/2023 season.  With a brand new facility built to entertain and inspire, this new season of shows will be nothing short of phenomenal!
