BWW Review: RIGOLETTO, Premieres in Sao Paulo Bringing as Subjects Harassment, Revenge, Curse and Power

The 2019 lyrical season of Sao Paulo's Theatro Municipal brings one of the most important operas of Italian romanticism, Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi. With scenic direction by Jorge Takla and musical direction by conductor Roberto Minczuk, and sumptuous scenarios by Nicolas Boni, the premiere takes place on July 20 at 20h. The recitals follow on days 23, 24, 26, 27 and 30, always at 8 pm, and on Sundays 21 and 28 at 6 pm.

Opelika Songwriters Festival Adds Shawn Mullins as Headliner

The Opelika Songwriters Festival, a new annual event based in Opelika, Alabama, has added Shawn Mullins as the headliner for the festival, which will entertain music fans at its inaugural celebration over Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-26, 2019) at multiple venues in the town's historic downtown. Opelika recording studio/event center The Sound Wall and Russell Carter Artist Management out of Atlanta (producer of the 30A Songwriters Festival in Florida) are co-producing the event in conjunction with The Arts Association of East Alabama. Confirmed sponsors include the City of Opelika, Auburn Opelika Tourism, Opelika Observer, W. James Samford Jr Foundation, United Johnson Brothers of Alabama, Wings 94.3FM, ESPN 106.7FM, WANI 98.7FM, WLEE 96.3FM, Autosport Bodyworks, Auburn Bank, and Sundilla Concert Series. A portion of the net proceeds from the festival go to benefit The Arts Association of East Alabama. Attendees from across the Southeast and further afield are expected to gather for this very special event.

Barrow Street Theatricals announced today the rotating cast of guest actors through early April for the American premiere of the Nassim Soleimanpour and Bush Theatre production of NASSIM by celebrated Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour (White Rabbit Red Rabbit), featuring direction by Omar Elerian. Asian World Film Festival Announces Closing Night, 11/1

The 4TH Annual ASIAN WORLD FILM FESTIVAL (AWFF) will close with an awards presentation honoring actresses Lisa Lu and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) with the Snow Leopard Awards at the festival's closing night ceremony. AWFF is once again partnering with The Snow Leopard Trust to raise awareness for the endangered snow leopard and its ecosystem in the high mountains of Asia. The Awards ceremony, will be followed by a screening of China's In Harm's Way and a reception at the Culver Hotel.

BWW Review: Posner's STUPID f**kING BIRD Launches ACT 1's 30th Season

There is a wonderful scene in act two of Aaron Posner's Stupid f**king Bird - the first production of ACT 1's 2018-19 season - during which actors Tamara Scott and Diego Gomez, playing mother and son, launch into a years-in-the-making confrontation that gives both actors an opportunity to prove their mettle in decidedly theatrical fashion. If only for that one scene in Posner's three-act play, audiences could walk away satisfied, but thanks to Mark Cabus' inspired direction of a particularly notable cast there are far more moments to entertain and, perhaps, to challenge audiences to think about the personal cost of creating art.

Maggie Q to Receive the World Tourism Humanitarian Award

Actress Maggie Q will receive the World Tourism Humanitarian Award on November 5, 2018, the opening day of World Travel Market (WTM) London, at the ExCel Centre. Maggie Q will be presented the award as part of the annual World Tourism Awards ceremony sponsored by Corinthia Hotels, The New York Times, United Airlines and host sponsor Reed Travel Exhibitions.
