NYC Readers Jazz Awards Announced At Birdland Theater, November 24

Hot House Magazine, in partnership with Jazzmobile, is excited to announce the 6th New York City Readers Jazz Awards on Sunday, November 24th at New York City's famed Birdland Jazz Club, located at 315 West 44th Street. This greatly anticipated event will celebrate the vitality of the jazz art form by honoring the very finest musicians that this city has to offer.  The public has voted and finalists are announced for each category below. On November 24th, one winner will be announced for each category and attendees will get the chance to witness rare musical collaborations between award winners, and presentations from some of the most important names in the industry.

It's A Fall Harvest Jam with clarinetist Dan Levinson and vocalist Molly Ryan, joined by an all-star band in concert for one night only on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:30 pm at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown. Dan Levinson's Hot Nights in Harlem, part of Summer JazzFest at the Bickford Theatre is a dazzling Musical Journey to the epicenter of Jazz in the 1920s and '30s with Dan Levinson's Gotham SophistiCats: Molly Ryan, Jeff Barnhart, Mike Davis, Jim Fryer, Rob Adkins, Kevin Dorn and special guest Dandy Wellington. Featuring the rompin', stompin' music of Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Ethel Waters, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, and others. Take the "A" Train uptown, step into the Savoy Ballroom, cut a rug with the Lindy Hoppers, then head on over to a rent party and watch the dawn break through. Or you can just sit there, tap your toes and listen to all the good sounds.

The Eighth Annual Bickford Benefit Concert featuring an all-star ensemble of outstanding jazz artists from the Tri-State area comes to the Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum for one night only on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 7:30 PM. The ensemble includes trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg, cornetist Warren Vache, trombonist Mariel Bildsten, clarinetist Dan Levinson, pianist Rossano Sportiello, guitarist/vocalist Molly Ryan, bassist Rob Adkins, and drummer Mark McLean.  All of the ticket sales from this concert will go to support programming at the Bickford Theatre.

The Morris Museum has announced the 2018-19 season in its Bickford Theatre, adventuring into new programming directions, while continuing to support live theatre and jazz. Notable, new additions this season include an expanded program of documentary and classic film, storytelling workshops, a public lecture series, and a new relationship with National Theatre London. A Midsummer Night's Jazz Party Comes to the Bickford Theatre

Dan Levinson's Midsummer Night's Jazz Party returns to the Bickford Theatre as part of Summer JazzFest for one night only on Thursday, August 2 at 7:30 pm. For his annual appearance at the popular festival, Levinson dispenses with music scores and stands for a jam session in the tradition of the legendary jazz clubs of the forties and fifties such as Eddie Condon's and Nick's. Joining the popular clarinetist will be Jon-Erik Kellso on trumpet, Harvey Tibbs on trombone, Mark Shane on piano, Rob Adkins on bass, and Paul Wells on drums. And as customary, the concert will be preceded by a food truck picnic.

Music and food always seem perfect together so for Bickford Summer JazzFest the theatre will combine great jazz with some of the region's best food trucks on-site before each concert. Different food trucks will be featured so that both ticket holders and the general public can picnic on the beautiful Morris Museum grounds or tailgate in the spacious parking area from 5:30 to 7:30 on festival nights.

The 7th Annual Bickford Benefit Concert featuring the Bickford Benefit All Stars comes to the Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum for one night only on Monday, November 13, at 7:30 PM. The all-star ensemble, comprised of some of the best hot jazz players in the country, includes clarinetist Dan Levinson, trumpeter Mike Davis, trombonist Jim Fryer, pianist Jeff Barnhart, bassist Brian Nalepka, drummer St phane S va, and guitarist/singer Molly Ryan. All of the ticket sales from this concert will go to support programming at the Bickford Theatre.

The Bickford Theatre has announced their 2017-18 season which includes a blend of jazz, bluegrass, classical, pop and a trio of live theater offerings. Subscription packages for the Main Stage productions are available and seats for most of this season's shows are reserved. Tickets are available online at www.morrismuseum.org or by phone at 973-971-3706. Food trucks which proved extremely popular over the summer will be offered for the concerts in September and October so make plans to tailgate while the weather is still nice.
