It takes a village to create a masterpiece. OBIE Winner, José Rivera ('Marisol' and 'References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot'), premieres another powerful stage-work at the East Village's arts haven, The theater at the 14th Street Y.

Theater for the New City Executive Director Crystal Field is presenting 'A Life In The Rye,' a new play that looks at J.D. Salinger's life and the impact that 'The Catcher In The Rye' had on him, his fans, fanatics obsessed with the book and the world.

James Baldwin wrote in 1962, 'The brutality with which Negroes are treated in this country simply cannot be overstated, however unwilling white men may be to hear it. In the beginninga?'and neither can this be overstateda?'a Negro just cannot believe that white people are treating him as they do; he does not know what he has done to merit it.

Broadway costume designer turned playwright, Carrie Robbins, will present the world premiere of her latest work, PIE LESSONS, with her production company Days of the Giants, Oct. 25-Nov. 3 as part of THE N.Y. INTERNATIONAL FRINGE FESTIVAL at Metropolitan Playhouse (220A East 4th Street) in Manhattan. PIE LESSONS, directed by Jonathan Cerullo, debuts this fall having previously received a staged-reading last spring at Theater for the New City as part of Crystal Field, Exec. Artistic Director's Scratch Night. Pie will be served!

Nonstop theater, a costume competition and ballroom dancing will bewitch the East Village October 31 in the Village Halloween Costume Ball, which is presented annually by Theater for the New City (TNC), 155 First Avenue.  This unique festival continues as a grand coming-together for real witches, everyday New Yorkers and artists alike. An explosive fall tradition, it is always held on the actual night of Halloween and celebrates artistic creation and fertilization.

Dining with Ploetz, an evening of one-acts, opened at Theater for the New City September 6. Written by playwright and published author Richard Ploetz, the production features three dark comedies, Goldfish, Memory Like a Pale Green Clock and Bone Appetite. The critically acclaimed production runs until September 22.

WIFEY follows one woman's journey through marriage in the wake of the 2016 election, exploring what it means to be and become a wife in Trump's America.

Ashley Wren Collins directs. Seven performances will be staged at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue in New York City, from September 8-15, 2019.

Sometimes a trip to the Emergency Room is so awful that it's just made for Theater of the Ridiculous.  That's the premise of 'Singin' in the E.R.,' the newest musical by Ruby Lynn Reyner, a star of John Vaccarro's Playhouse of the Ridiculous who has been called a female Jerry Lewis.

From August 25 to September 2, Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival will present the world premiere of a new translation by Robert Greer of August Strindberg's 'The Father,' directed by Mr. Greer and performed by an ensemble of actors from August Strindberg Rep, who developed the piece in a workshop production last November at Gene Frankel Theatre.
