The Second Annual Hudson Jazz Festival Will Be Presented In February

Seven-time GRAMMY nominee Bobby Sanabria and his Quarteto Ache open the 2019 Hudson Jazz Festival "I'm proud to support The Hudson Jazz Festival because it enriches our community and makes it a better place to live." - Sonny Rollins Hudson, NY - Hudson Hall presents the second annual HUDSON JAZZ FESTIVAL (HJF), FRIDAY FEBRUARY 15, SATURDAY FEBRUARY 16 and SUNDAY FEBRUARY 17 (President's Day Weekend) at Hudson Hall at the historic Hudson Opera House's historic 1855 theater. Curated by Hudson-based jazz pianist Armen Donelian, the 2019 festival treats jazz aficionados and world music fans to a banquet of masterful artists playing music from around the globe.

Joffrey Ballet Announces Winners of Winning Works

The Joffrey Academy of Dance, Official School of The Joffrey Ballet, announces the recipients of the ninth annual Winning Works Choreographic Competition: Tommie-Waheed Evans, Marissa Osato, Xiang Xu and Edgar Zendejas. This announcement follows a national call for ALAANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Arab and Native American) artists to submit applications, which began in June. The choreographers' world premiere works will be showcased on the members of the Joffrey Studio Company and the Joffrey Academy Trainee Program.

Amy Keys to Play Blackbox @ the Edye at The Broad Stage

The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica presents Amy Keys, on Friday, December 7 at 8:00pm. Amy Keys is the fourth evening of blackbox @ the edye, which transforms The Edye into a club featuring up-and-coming jazz and blues artists.  The series is curated and hosted by The Reverend Shawn Amos; he and his house band perform at select shows during the season as well.   

The Music Center Honored Joni Mitchell with Two Sold Out Concerts

Honoring one of the world's most revered artists, The Music Center celebrated Joni Mitchell on November 6 and 7, 2018, with two all-star concerts - JONI 75: A Birthday Celebration Live at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion - and an exclusive gala, co-hosted with Vanity Fair and its editor Radhika Jones, which feted her 75th birthday and raised funds for The Music Center's artistic programming, specifically free and low cost programming for underserved communities. The concerts featured performances by Brandi Carlile; Glen Hansard; Emmylou Harris; Norah Jones; Chaka Khan; Diana Krall; Kris Kristofferson; Los Lobos with La Marisoul, Cesar Castro & Xochi Flores; Graham Nash; Seal; James Taylor; and Rufus Wainwright. The artists lit up the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion stage performing Mitchell's songs, which spanned all stages of her career. Co-musical directors Brain Blade and Jon Cowherd provided the evenings' musical arrangements.  

Five-time Grammy Award-winner Lalah Hathaway Comes To The Connor Palace For Valentine's Day

Celebrate the season of love with Lalah Hathaway, five-time Grammy Award winner and daughter of the legendary Donny Hathaway, as she performs an all-new show, Sophisticated Soul, at the Connor Palace on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019 at 8 p.m. The special Valentine's Day performance will showcase Hathaway's irrepressible and boundary-defying voice, complemented by special guest Raheem Devaughn, as she performs selections from her eighth studio album "honestly" and many more.

Cast Announced For Olivier Award-Winner Giles Terera's Workshop Performance of THE MEANING OF ZONG

Hamilton's Olivier Award-winning actor Giles Terera will present his new play The Meaning of Zong on Bristol Old Vic's stage this Thursday (11 Oct) for a one-night-only workshop performance. The piece examines the massacre aboard the slave ship Zong in 1781 and the repercussions of these events, which influenced the growing abolition movement in the UK. This rehearsed reading will be followed by a free post-show talk with Giles Terera, Tom Morris and the cast.

The Newark Downtown District is the vibrant setting for a free community concert celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Newark Downtown District (NDD) on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Black Ensemble's WOMEN OF SOUL Opens Oct 28

Black Ensemble Theater continues its 2018 Season (Movers and Shakers) with Women of Soul, (With a Tribute to the Queen) written and directed by Black Ensemble Theater Associate Director Daryl D. Brooks. Women of Soul will be performed at the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center, 4450 N. Clark Street in Chicago, beginning October 20, 2018 with an unlimited run.

AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS to Honor Aretha Franklin with Special Tribute

Dick clark productions and ABC announced an all-star lineup of soul and gospel legends who will come together to pay homage to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, at the "2018 American Music Awards." Gladys Knight, Ledisi, Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and CeCe Winans, friends of the late, luminary singer/songwriter, will take the AMAs stage for a moving tribute honoring Franklin's gospel roots and iconic gospel album, "Amazing Grace." Consulting producer for the tribute is the Emmy Award®-winning music director, composer and producer Rickey Minor. Hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross, the "2018 American Music Awards," the world's largest fan-voted awards show, will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8:00 p.m. EDT, on ABC.

LIVE @ BENAROYA HALL Presents 4 Emerging Artists This Fall

This Fall Live @ Benaroya Hall demonstrates its commitment to supporting emerging artists with a series of four artists on the rise: Royal, Springs, Beving and Micarelli. The Live @ Benaroya Hall season continues through December and into 2019 with four added concerts: Brickman, The Tenors, The English Beat and Bowie. Tickets to those shows recently went on sale and good seats are available for all concerts in the lineup. More shows for the Spring of 2019 will be announced in late January. Tickets for the concerts listed above are on sale now, prices vary.
