The Ford Theatres today announced a spectacular season for Summer 2017 at the fully transformed John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. The 2017 season will open today, July 15 with a performance by famed tap dancer and choreographer Savion Glover and runs through Monday, October 16.

The stars turned out to lend a hand to the event, founded by Peters and and Mary Tyler Moore, and to introduce the crowd to some furry new friends for the taking. The 19th annual Broadway Barks, the star-studded dog and cat adoption event benefiting New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies, will feature celebrities from the hottest shows currently on Broadway. Today's event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will take place in Shubert Alley (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenues). Festivities begin at 3 p.m.; celebrity presentations of adoptable pets take place between 5-6:30 p.m. The rain or shine event is free and open to the public.

Bernadette Peters and Broadway Barks have established the annual Mary Tyler Moore Award, which will be given out each year at the event to an individual or group who has changed the lives of homeless animals in a way that encourages others to do the same.

Kevin Tuerff was honored when his story was included in the Broadway musical, Come From Away. Tony-nominated American actor Chad Kimball portrays the author's story onstage. River Grove Books published 'Channel of Peace: Stranded in Gander,' a memoir by author Kevin Tuerff, on February 28, 2017. It is the only first-person book of the events in Gander, Newfoundland on September 11, 2001.

Broadway's heartwarming new hit Come From Away received the Dora Award this evening for Outstanding New Musical. The Dora Mavor Moore Awards, recognize excellence in the performing arts in Toronto.
