The Music Center invites all Southern California high school students interested in the performing arts to apply for The Music Center's 36th Annual Spotlight, a free nationally acclaimed competition that provides more than $100,000 in performing arts scholarships and artistic development through auditions, feedback, mastery classes taught by professional artists and arts administrators, and performance opportunities at the West Coast's leading performing arts destination.

The Music Center today announced 100 of Southern California's most talented high school students as semifinalists in The Music Center's 34th annual Spotlight (Spotlight) program, a free nationally acclaimed performing arts competition, scholarship and artistic development program for teens. A TMC Arts program, Spotlight provides Southern California teens with expert advice, coaching, auditions and mastery classes taught by professional artists and arts administrators.

If you were a fan of the television show Designing Women back in the 80s and early 90s (which I was), this show is for you. If you were not watching tv back then, this is still for you. Giving off a Feminist vibe with a southern spin from the moment you enter the theatre, this production covers all of today's topics including #metoo, Black Lives Matter, COVID, and Donald Trump. There is also a nod to Cardi B and the Kardashians.

Broadway’s Carmen Cusack (Wicked, Bright Star, South Pacific), a Tony Award nominee, plays the indomitable Julia Sugarbaker through October 11, when she returns to Broadway in Flying Over Sunset.

The debut cast for the show includes actors from stage and screen. Last night, MPTF (Motion Picture & Television Fund) hosted the 19th annual “Night Before” party, reimagined as a special virtual edition.  Hosted by Wayne Brady, the evening raised nearly $2 million, which will be used to support those in the industry who benefit from MPTF’s charitable programs and services, especially during this unprecedented time.

The Music Center has launched a new episodic series of online tutorial videos as part of The Music Center's Spotlight Academy to help aspiring young artists gain valuable insights on arts careers, workforce development skills and tips on how to apply for the organization's free, annual Music Center Spotlight arts training and scholarship program.

Roger Ebert's Film Festival, co-founded and hosted by Chaz Ebert and also known as 'Ebertfest,” announced today that the 22nd Annual Roger Ebert's Film Festival will take place April 15-18, 2020 at the Virginia Theatre in Champaign, IL with related talks and panel discussions to be held at the Hyatt Place in Champaign and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

On Saturday night in Los Angeles, Billy Porter ("POSE," "American Horror Story: Apocalypse") hosted DIVERSITY x DESIGN, an Emmy season soiree celebrating diversity, inclusion and representation on television. Presented by BOOM Events, the evening benefitted DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, the national non-profit organization that raises awareness and grants funds to organizations that provide treatment, direct care services, preventive education programs and advocacy for individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS.
