Strand Theatre in Marietta Hosts Weekend Watch Parties

The Earl and Rachel Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta is temporarily closed due to the current health crisis. However, the theatre is hosting watch parties online on Friday and Saturday nights.

THE NIGHT BUSTER KEATON DREAMED ME to Have West Coast Premiere at 24th Street Theatre

24th Street Theatre finds color in the lives of two orphan girls living in a silent film world of black, white and varying shades of gray. Debbie Devine directs the West Coast premiere of Kerry Muir's magical, surreal, dream-like movie-within-a play, The Night Buster Keaton Dreamed Me, for an April 11 opening. Performances will continue through May 31, with low-priced previews taking place March 28 through April 5.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association & The American Cinematique Announce the HPFA RESTORATION SUMMIT

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and The American Cinematheque are proud to present the HFPA Restoration Summit 2020 – two days of exciting film rediscoveries, onstage dialogues and clip shows that celebrate the art and science of film preservation and restoration. The events will take place at the American Cinematheque at the Egyptian Theatre on February 15 and 16. Demonstrating its passionate commitment to saving and reviving films from around the world, the HFPA is becoming one of the leading institutions in the field of film restoration. Its recent contributions include sponsoring the restoration of “The Black Pirate” (1926), spearheaded by director Alexander Payne and currently in progress; and Fellini's “Roma” (1972), from the Cineteca di Bologna in Italy.

BWW Review: THE MAGIC FLUTE at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion

On Saturday evening, November 16, 2019, Los Angeles Opera presented Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Emanuel Schickaneder's 1791 singspiel, The Magic Flute. The unusual production, which involved the appearance of screens reminiscent of 1920s silent films, was originally devised by Barry Kosky, Suzanne Andrade, and Paul Barritt for Berlin's Komische Oper.
