Today the 1960's sprang back to life in a mist of hairspray and greasepaint as Specialist Hair and Media Make-up students from University College Birmingham showcased their skills to cast members from the hit musical Hairspray at Birmingham Hippodrome, including X-Factor runner up Marcus Collins.

Vintage Hollywood graced the Birmingham Hippodrome stage last night as High Society is in town for one week only. Adapted from the 1956 film, Cole Porter's classic has been turned into a fully staged musical which continues to tour the UK until July.

Coinciding with Valentine's Day, Birmingham based Women & Theatre present 'Loving Me', a brand new piece of musical theatre created with Looked After Young People. In partnership with Birmingham Hippodrome, Service Birmingham, the REP and LACES (Looked After Children Education Service), a group of young people have worked together to devise an extraordinary piece of theatre on the theme of love.

An educational symposium looking into issues around integration into adult life for young people with learning disabilities is taking place at Birmingham Hippodrome in February. Following a successful pilot symposium in 2011 about how creative practice can be used to support the development of young people on the autistic spectrum, Moving On Up is promoted as part of Birmingham Hippodrome's education programme in conjunction with Open Theatre Company.

Coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, this gripping trio of monologues imagines the voices of three real-life figures who witness the unfolding disaster from very different times and places: A disgraced American soldier defending her actions as a prison guard at Abu Ghraib; a weapons inspector exposing the false case for war; and an Iraqi dissident who survived torture in Saddam's brutal prisons.
