Last night (9 Oct 2012) Birmingham Hippodrome threw open its doors to greet a sold-out SISTER ACT audience with a heavenly host of staff dressed in their finest Nun's habits. Check out photos of them in costume below!

Sister Act is a musical production based on the hugely popular 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, who is also a producer on the show. Having had a massively successful run in the West End, regional audiences have been treated to this production for the past year or so now and Birmingham Hippodrome marks it's final venue on this outing.

It was announced today, 2 October 2012, that The National Theatre's award-winning production of WAR HORSE begins a ten month, nine-venue tour of the UK and Ireland in the autumn of 2013. We are so lucky in the Midlands to have such a fantastic venue in the Birmingham Hippodrome. Playing host to a massive number of large scale national UK tours and entertainment legends over the years, in addition to being home to Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) and a regional venue for Welsh National Opera, was bound to take its toll eventually. It was during the 1980s when the theatre's stage was last refurbished and some thirty years later it is time again for work to be done to enable the theatre to maintain its five star reputation.

Disney today announced that the touring production of THE LION KING will play the Birmingham Hippodrome from Saturday 29th June 2013 as part of its first-ever UK tour. The legendary musical, which premiered in Bristol on Friday 31st August will visit Birmingham for a three-month season, giving audiences the opportunity to experience the global phenomenon in their local theatre.

Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage, written by Eleanor Bergstein, script writer and creator of the phenomenally successful film, features all the much-loved characters and original dialogue from the iconic film with exciting extra scenes added in. The first ever UK tour opened in Bristol in September 2011, and has since broken box office records across the country, making it one of the most successful tours in UK history. Birmingham Hippodrome has announced the following events for July 21.

Beginning at 6:15pm today Birmingham Hippodrome will be streaming LIVE from behind the scenes of Dirty Dancing. At 6:15pm we will join the full company on stage as they complete the daily physical warm-up, then from 6.30-6.45pm we get an insight into the intense vocal warm-up before curtain up. This will be a unique and rarely seen opportunity to take a glimpse behind the red curtain and see the day to day workings of a major theatrical production.
