National Alliance for Musical Theatre has announced preliminary casting and additional programming for their 34th Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS, which returns in person and takes place on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21, 2022, at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues).
Director/Producer Shannon Cohn, along with executive producers Rosario Dawson and Corinne Foxx hosted the Los Angeles Premiere of BELOW THE BELT last night (Saturday, October 1) at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood. Kumu Kahua Theatre, in collaboration with Bamboo Ridge Press have announced the October prompt for their monthly playwriting contest, Go Try PlayWrite. Thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous donor, contest winners in 2022 will receive a $100.00 check as well as a subscription to Bamboo Ridge Press.

In 2010, the Clarksville-based Roxy Regional Theatre staged a production of Stephen Sondheim and James LaPine’s “exquisitely off-kilter and melodiously rapturous musical Into the Woods” which remains firmly ensconced in my memory for its many attributes, not the least of which were the actors (Sarah Levine, Rachael Fogle, Josh Bernaski, Gregory Pember, Jackie Ostick and current artistic director Ryan Bowie) who brought the show so vividly to life and whose performances remain among some of the best we’ve seen at the venue in its 40 years. In fact, we often cite that 2010 Into the Woods (after another fondly remembered production some 15 years even before that) as a turning point, of sorts, in the history of The Roxy.
