On Tuesday, May 1st, three NYC floral designers will flower-bomb sculptures uptown for Harlem Sculpture Gardens. The works selected for this experience will be Echoes of the Path by Dianne Smith; The Unbroken Project by Felipe Jacome and Svetlana Onipko; Gardening Angel by Vera Tineo in Jackie Robinson Park and I Dream of Becoming a Tree by ByeongDoo Moon in Jackie Robinson Park.

Sir J.M. Barrie’s classic tale and 1904 play, tells the story of reference to Native Americans who inhabit a fictitious island known as Neverland. Referred to as “Piccaninny Warriors,” include Tiger Lily and her tribe as they steal pockets from the Lost Boys and try to claim the island as their own, reclaiming it from those who began to take it away from them.

Missy Elliott, Grammy-Award-winning hip hop artist, has joined the new musical film from Pharrell Williams and Michel Gondry. Henry joins the previously announced Brian Tyree Henry, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey, and recent Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Elliott has won four Grammy Awards in her career so far. In 2023, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making her the first female rapper to achieve this honor.

One year after restoring connections to its roots as a downtown movie palace, the Rialto Center for the Arts at Georgia State University has announced successes from its first year of operation featuring the historic venue’s new Digital Cinema Projection (DCP) projector and larger Stewart cinema screen.   

Premiering May 15, the series will see fan-favorite queens from across the Drag Race franchise parody blockbuster features like “Top Gun”, “Scream” and “The Wizard of Oz” over 8 episodes. “Drag Me To The Movies” is written and directed by World of Wonder’s Ron Hill and Jeff Maccubbin, the editors of “UNHhhh” and creators of “Why R Humans?”. The trailer reveals a first taste of the irreverent format, as well as the full line-up of featured titles.

Some bright local voices were heard at Prism Theatre Company’s SPOTLIGHT ON ... BEING YOU over this past weekend in St. Louis. The best of the festival was the performance billed as a ‘Popera’ written and composed by Holly Barber and Lee Ehmke. THAT PERFECT KISS, a retelling of Cinderella and her Prince, is a short musical ditty about finding one’s genuine self. Accompanied by composer Holly Barber on guitar, Sarah Lueken, Rachel Bailey, Zach Thompson, and Matt Kauzlarich performed the light pop score with charm and pizzaz. In just a few minutes, Barber and Ehmke used familiar characters, re-told their stories, provided them arc, and created an indelible musical memory for the audience. The prince wasn't the only thing that was charming in this coming-of-age tale.

Jonathan Bailey, who will be playing the character of Fiyero in the two-part film adaptation of Wicked, has joined the third season of the Netflix series Heartstopper. He will be making a cameo appearance as Jack Maddox, an Instagram-famous classicist and celebrity crush of Charlie. Brian Tyree Henry, who was nominated for a Tony Award for his role in the revival of Lobby Hero, has joined the new musical film from Pharrell Williams and Michel Gondry. Henry joins the previously announced Kelvin Harrison Jr., Halle Bailey and recent Oscar-winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Few plot details about the upcoming film have been released, apart from its setting. It is reported to be set in Virginia Beach during the summer of 1977.
