Today's UK Independent reports that legendary director Steven Spielberg has been in talks with the stage show's director, Richard Eyre, about bringing MARY POPPINS back to the big screen.
The hit production of MARY POPPINS, currently running in London, and based on the stories by P.L. Travers and the 1964 Walt Disney film will begin performance on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre in the Fall of 2006.
Mary Poppins will begin performances at the New Amsterdam Theatre on October 14, 2006 for a November 16, 2006 opening. The Lion King will exit the New Amsterdam Theatre on June 4, 2006, to re-open at the Minskoff on June 13, 2006.
On October 31st, Scarlett Strallen will take over in the title role of Mary Poppins on the West End, and three other performers will enter the show, as well
David Ayers and Angela Gaylor will star in the New York Musical Theatre Festival bawdy period musical Tom Jones, which will run from September 26th through October 2nd

The nominations were announced today for the 2005 Olivier Awards, London's most prestigious theatre awards. The award ceremony will take place on February 20, 2005 in the UK.
