Video: FREAK THE MIGHTY World Premiere Musical at Seattle Rep
The coming-of-age story comes from the Tony Award-winning producers of Come From Away.
Get a first look at FREAK THE MIGHTY, the world premiere musical heading to Seattle Rep this summer. The clip highlights the central friendship at the heart of the story and sets the tone for what the creative team is billing as a multigenerational theatrical experience.
The musical is based on Rodman Philbrick's novel and features book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe, with music by Ryan Fielding Garrett. The story centers on two teenagers, Maxwell Kane and Kevin "Freak" Avery, who feel like outsiders until they find each other and form a bond that reshapes their world. Set in the early 1990s, the show blends humor and emotional weight as it follows the pair through a coming-of-age adventure driven by imagination and resilience. The production is brought to the stage by the Tony Award-winning producers of COME FROM AWAY.
FREAK THE MIGHTY is a co-production between Seattle Rep and Cleveland Play House, directed by CPH Artistic Director Michael Barakiva and choreographed by David Connolly. Performances at Seattle Rep run July 30 through September 6, 2026 at the Bagley Wright Theater.
The show completed an earlier leg of its world premiere run at Cleveland Play House before moving to Seattle. BroadwayWorld has covered the production extensively, including a review from the Cleveland engagement and an interview with book and lyricist Anthony Drewe.
