 Roll up, roll up! Internationally acclaimed Circus 1903 will make its triumphant return to the Sydney Opera House this festive season. With magic and marvels bigger and better than ever before, it will take over the Concert Hall in a strictly limited run from 21-29 December.

THE ILLUSIONISTS - LIVE FROM BROADWAY can make you forget your troubles and get happy for a couple of hours. The National Tour cast gracing the stage of the Emerson Colonial Theatre consists of Colin Cloud (The Deductionist), Raymond Crowe (The Unusualist), Paul Dabek (The Trickster), Jonathan Goodwin (The Daredevil), An Ha Lim (The Manipulator), and Sabine Van Diemen (The Sorceress), with a quartet of Magician's Assistants (Alison Karoly, Ashleigh McCready, Nick Raiano, Jesus Sepulveda Maldonado) whose athleticism and dance skills add some extra flair to the already hefty entertainment value.

Magicians have always found a home on stage, whether it was during vaudeville's heyday or on Broadway, and THE ILLUSIONISTS is proof that this association is still going strong (of course, the art of magic goes back many centuries, long before either existed). I have to confess that I've never actually seen any magician perform live. Most of my experience has been limited to watching various acts perform on television over the years. But, when you watch them on TV the more skeptical viewer is always aware that even though a particular stunt may seem phenomenal, there's that sense that maybe this was edited or achieved through camera trickery. That's not necessarily a fair assumption, but it's one I think a lot of people share. After having witnessed THE ILLUSIONISTS in person I find myself at a loss to explain how most of their illusions were created. And that's what makes this show so amazing. Their recent performance at the Fox Theatre was a truly wondrous and amusing experience that had me pondering over and over afterwards: "Just how did they do that?"

Broadway In Chicago has announced that individual tickets for CIRCUS 1903 -The Golden Age of Circus, go on sale to the general public on Friday, January 20.

Filled with eye-popping visuals, optical trickery, risky stunts, hilarious audience participation, and lots of hammy showmanship (complete with Solid Gold-style background dancers-slash-magicians' assistants), THE ILLUSIONISTS - LIVE FROM BROADWAY is a supremely entertaining if occasionally cheesy stage show that's like several caffeinated Vegas magic shows on steroids all mashed together. The first stop of this new leg of the post-Broadway national tour is Orange County's Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, where it will attempt to wow local audiences for a strictly one-week engagement until February 7.
