Beginning Jan. 16, a diverse cast of Northwestern University students and alumni will present Imagine U episodes created for “Saturday Morning Live! at The National Theatre.” Exploring the theme of “Life Now,” the episodes feature stories, songs, movement and crafts created to help families cope with the challenges of life during the pandemic. 

Global fairytales from Japan and South Africa and contemporary classics a?oeThe Rainbow Fisha?? and a?oeFrozen,a?? will mark the return of a?oeImagine U Storytime,a?? the online storytelling series presented by the Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts and the department of theater at Northwestern University.

A Greek myth retold, an unconventional narrative about cellmates in an Argentine prison and a Tennessee Williams classic seen through the lens of a Chinese American family will make up Wirtz Center's annual MFA Lab series in winter and spring of 2020.

HTY is pleased to announce an added performance of Alvin Chan's A Korean Cinderella on September 21st due to popular demand. The production is a new telling of the Cinderella story that mixes modern K-pop with traditional Korean drumming, dance and costumes, and kicks off Honolulu Theatre for Youth's 2019-2020 season.

Whisk away on a family adventure around the world without heavy luggage or cramped airplanes. Let's Go! is the theme for Honolulu Theatre for Youth's 65th season that will transport audiences around the globe and back in time to Korea, Japan, Tasmania, post-war New York, the kingdom of Hawaii, and more. Underlying the humor and excitement of each play are themes of resilience, love, friendship, and courage that will hit home.

Children will thoroughly enjoy the vivid physicality of Alvin Chan's hour long adaptation of The Ballad of Mu Lan, onstage at Bethesda's Imagination Stage through August 11. Chan's use of the stylized movement Jingju (Beijing Opera) suits both the 1500 year old Chinese tale and the requisites of children's theatre: the style is broad and active yet simple to read. Chan's script in up to date English completes a package which also includes gorgeous scenery and props by Joseph D. Dodd, sensational cinematic, animated videos by Chesley Cannon, and colorful costumes, also by Chan.

Hawaii Honolulu Theatre for Youth kicks off its 64th season 'Our Stories' with Filipino Folktales & Fables, a celebration of one of Hawaii's largest and most important communities.  

Honolulu Theatre for Youth's 64th season "Our Stories" gives voice to the unique and diverse stories of Hawaii's people.  Stories help us understand the past and imagine the future.  The seven stories featured in HTY's 2018-2019 season will nourish audience's hearts and minds. Artistic Director Eric Johnson says, "From true tales of Hawaiian cowboys to a new take on the most read children's book in the world we are telling great stories next season.  Whether the popular stories of Mo Willems or the seldom heard stories of military children, each of these plays celebrates the multiplicity of experiences in Hawaii and how we connect to the world at large."?
