This weekend, Friday, July 17 and Saturday July 18, Rooftop Films, in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, will present the first weekend of the new Brooklyn Drive-In festival, on the pier of the Brooklyn Army Terminal (80 58th Street, Brooklyn, NY).

Three-time Emmy nominee Molly Shannon (The Other Two) has signed on to star in the half-hour comedy pilot BIG DEAL, starring and executive produced by Emmy nominee Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live). If the project is picked up to series, Shannon would appear as a series regular. Bayer co-created BIG DEAL with Emmy nominee Jeremy Beiler (Saturday Night Live, Inside Amy Schumer), who will also executive produce. Emmy winner Jessi Klein (Inside Amy Schumer, BLACK MONDAY, Big Mouth) will serve as showrunner and executive produce along with Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, Wet Hot American Summer, The Lovebirds), who will direct, as well as Annapurna's Megan Ellison and Sue Naegle and Jordana Mollick of Semi-Formal.

Variety reports that Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Victor Garber, Dan Levy, Ana Gasteyer, Burl Moseley, Sarayu Blue, Jake McDorman, and Mary Steenburgen have joined the cast of 'Happiest Season,' an upcoming romantic comedy.

Netflix has released the trailer for Horse Girl, starring Alison Bre. In the film, Sarah (Brie), a socially isolated arts and crafts store employee, finds herself more content in the company of horses and supernatural crime shows than people. But when a series of strangely surreal dreams upend the simplicity of her waking life, Sarah struggles to distinguish her visions from reality.

The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the showcase of new independent feature films selected across all categories for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.
