Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize winning play Driving Miss Daisy, presented by Studio Theatre through April 22nd at the BayWay Theatre in East Islip, is indeed a stirring and heart rendering tale. The heart of this story follows the relationship of Daisy Werthen and Hoke Colburn over the span of twenty-five years (from 1948 - 1973). It examines race and religious prejudices, but ultimately looks at human relationships and our ability to look at a person’s core.

DRIVING MISS DAISY – Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning Drama. The play was inspired by the playwright's grandmother, Lena Fox, her chauffeur, Will Coleman, and his father. His grandmother, a Jewish woman who lived in Atlanta during the 1960s, had to give up driving after a car accident, and hired Coleman, who drove her for 25 years.

The Garden Theatre in Winter Garden opened their production of Parade, directed by Joseph C. Walsh. The musical runs now through March 13th. Featuring a book by Alfred Uhry and music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, Parade shares the story of Leo and Lucille Frank, and the murder trial that gripped the small town of Marietta, Georgia in 1913. This provocative Tony Award-winning musical explores the endurance of love, hope, and compassion against seemingly insurmountable odds.

Joel Grey to Host Theater Hall of Fame 50th Anniversary Ceremony

Joel Grey has been announced as the host for the 50th annual Theater Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement in the American Theater induction ceremony. The ceremony will take place on November 15, 2021 at the Gershwin Theatre.
