The new American musical Allegiance officially opened earlier this week, at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street, starring Tony and Olivier Award winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables) in her long-awaited return to Broadway, 'Star Trek' icon George Takei in his Broadway debut at age 78, and Broadway and 'Glee' star Telly Leung. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the whole evening, starting with the sacred Gypsy Robe ceremony. Actors' Equity Association today marks 65 years of its famed Gypsy Robe® ceremony, an honor bestowed to a member of a Broadway chorus with the most Broadway musical chorus or ensemble show credits. The Gypsy Robe ceremony takes place onstage just before the audience enters the theater on opening night.
