Jon Michael Hill is an American actor best known for his work in theater, television, and film. Born on July 28, 1985, in Waukegan, Illinois, Hill developed an interest in acting at a young age and pursued his passion by studying at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduating, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting.
Hill made his Broadway debut in 2010 in the play Superior Donuts, which was written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tracy Letts. In the play, Hill played the role of Franco Wicks, a young African American man who works at a struggling donut shop in Chicago. Hill's portrayal of Franco earned him critical acclaim and a Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut.
In addition to his work on Broadway, Hill has also appeared in several off-Broadway productions. He starred in the play The Whipping Man at the Manhattan Theatre Club in 2011, and in the same year, he appeared in the play Detroit at the Playwrights Horizons. In 2015, Hill starred in the play Between Riverside and Crazy at the Atlantic Theater Company, which earned him a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play.
Hill has also made a name for himself in the world of television. He is best known for his role as Detective Marcus Bell on the CBS series Elementary, which premiered in 2012. In the series, Hill plays the loyal and hardworking partner of Sherlock Holmes, played by Jonny Lee Miller. Hill's performance on the show has been praised for its depth and nuance, and he has become a fan favorite among viewers.
In addition to his work on Elementary, Hill has also appeared in several other television shows. He had a recurring role on the hit series Suits, and he has also appeared in episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Eastbound & Down, and Person of Interest.
