Michael Sutherland

BIO

Michael Sutherland studied acting at the Stella Adler Studio at NYU with Mark Rylance and received his Masters in classical acting at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) where he was a finalist for the Deutsche Bank Award for Creative Enterprises.



Theatre performance includes playing Brad in the Broadway benefit of Rocky Horror for The Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation opposite Neil Patrick Harris and several shows at Allentown Shakespeare in the Park, including playing Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing directed by Tony nominee Moritz Von Stuelpnagel (dir. Hand To God)

Original independent theatre in New York includes the NYC Fringe (Jack Moore’s Killing John Grisham), and Theater for the New City (Breathless) which Austin Pendleton called “A beautifully written two-character adventure, played by two wonderful actors.”

Directing and development includes The Painter which was a Samuel French Finalist, the first production of Pearl in the Black Sea, which was a Kilroy’s List 2016 Honorable Mention and the developmental workshop of Hang Man at Ensemble Studio Theatre LA, which made The Kilroy’s 2017 The List.

Other original work includes composing for the Twilight the Musical! parody which had a development workshop at New World Stages directed by Tony nominee Gabriel Barre and was called “oft-hilarious” by MTV and music for Red Bull Theater’s reading series.

As a writer, Michael’s first screenplay METHOD was an Academy Nicholl Semifinalist.
