The musical's unconventional structure consists of an aspiring actress Cathy Hiatt (played by Jenna Pastuszek) telling her story backwards, while budding novelist Jamie Wellerstein (played by Max Meyers) tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.
