Emmie Kivell BIO

Emmie Kivell is a southern belle with big city charm. After growing up in Oklahoma and Texas where she first fell in love with performing, Emmie made the leap to conquer Los Angeles straight out of High School at 18. While in California, she not only landed parts in film/tv/music videos, but also became a member of two different female pop/r&b groups. She performed at many venues around LA with her girl group and gained experience inside the recording studio during her time with the band as well. In 2010, Emmie was offered a role as a character performer at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL. Having always wanted to work for "the mouse", she picked up her life and moved to the opposite side of the country. She was able to bring 6 face characters to life: Vidia, Princess Aurora, Queen Amidala, Princess Jasmine, Angelica, and Elsa, work in 2 different parks: WDW and Disneyland Paris, and partake in "meet n greets", shows, and parades.
While she enjoyed being up close and personal with park guests, she truly loved performing on the stage. Emmie was part of the opening cast of the Frozen Sing-Along show, (which is now in every Disney park) as well as the rest of the shows surrounding the "Frozen Summer Fun" event at Disney's Hollywood Studios. After 5 years of magic with Disney, she decided it was time to move back to "the real world" and focus on her love of musical theatre where she could incorporate all three of her passions: singing, dancing, and acting. Emmie has worked at Stolen Shakespeare Guild, Uptown Players, The Firehouse Theatre, and Casa Mañana in DFW. Most recently Emmie performed on the Norwegian Breakaway with Norwegian Cruise Line as Regina in the closing cast of Rock of Ages, and anticipates another ship contract in the future once CV19 diminishes. She is proud to say she is a member of the Actor's Equity Association. When she's not performing, you may find her singing with one of Emerald City's bands around Dallas/Ft. Worth.

BWW Review: ROCK OF AGES at Casa Manana

When ROCK OF AGES (the stage musical…not the dreadful movie) debuted on Broadway in 2014, they were 'Living on a Prayer' that they'd find enough middle-aged former frat guys and metal heads willing to rock out on The Great White Way, but after 2,328 New York performances of people saying 'I Wanna Rock' at the box office, it was clear that they'd gotten 'High Enough' to be a bonafide Broadway hit. [If this is too many 80's puns for you, then ROCK OF AGES probably isn't up your alley, dude.] Now appearing in regional theaters across the country, the musical is nice break from safer titles like JOSEPH, GUYS AND DOLLS or THE MUSIC MAN, which have overly peppered each season at [fill in the blank theatre company]. And although those more familiar shows might find greater success in the Fort Worth dome, this exceptional approach by Casa Manana is a great effort that should be applauded and rewarded by people wanting to see something other than SOUND OF MUSIC.

BWW Feature: Our Favorite Moments of 2016

By all accounts, 2016 has been quite the rollercoaster ride. Fortunately for DFW audiences, the local theatre community and many of the touring productions delivered nothing short of a stellar year, setting quite a high bar for upcoming performances. As we say goodbye to another December, we'd like to look back on a handful of memories that stood out among the long list of Playbills we've gathered. And like raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, these live theatre moments will be remembered as a few of our favorite things. We present this list in no particular order, and without awards or titles bestowed upon those listed. To everyone who contributed to the DFW theatre community in 2016, we thank you for sharing your time and talents with us.

BWW Review: SINGING IN THE RAIN at Stolen Shakespheare Guild

In 64 years since the famous film came out, the stage version of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN has never quite succeeded on The Great White Way, despite several attempts (a recent endeavor starring Derek Hough was postponed just last month). Nonetheless, Stolen Shakespeare Guild continues their tenth season with this well-known title. Although the musical's nostalgia does seem to charm audiences with its memorable score, ultimately, the magic and glamour of the film disappear in front of a live audience.
