Uptown Players to Stage LA CAGE AUX FOLLES This July
Uptown Players continues its 2017 season with the hit musical La Cage Aux Folles, running July 14 - 30, 2017 at the Kalita Humphreys Theater.
Winner of numerous awards including the 2010 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and 2010 Outer Critics Circle Award and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical, La Cage Aux Folles features a book by Harvey Fierstein, music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and is based on the original play by Jean Poiret.
After twenty years of un-wedded bliss Georges and Albin, two men partnered for better-or-worse, get a bit of both when Georges' son (fathered during a one-night fling) announces his impending marriage to the daughter of a bigoted, right-wing politician. Further complicating the situation is the "family business": Albin and Georges run a drag nightclub in St. Tropez, where Albin is the "star" performer "Zaza." Georges reluctantly agrees to masquerade as "normal" when he meets the family of the bride-to-be. But Albin has other plans, with hilarious results.
The Uptown Players cast includes Mikey Abrams, Tyler Jeffrey Adams, Christopher Curtis, Bob Hess, Alex Heika, Emmie Kivell, Sarah Powell, Jenny Tucker, and Seth Womack. The cast also features Kyle Fleig, Michael Gomez, Cale Richards, Terry Snyder, Sammy Swim, and Trevor Wright as Les Cagelles. Rounding out the cast of 19 are Chris Bain, Aaron Green, Madeline Rice, and Noelle Chesney Woods. The production is under the direction of Cheryl Denson, with music direction by Kevin Gunter, and Choreography by Michael Sylvester.
This hilarious musical runs July 14 - 30, 2017, with shows at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday (no performance July 16). Performances take place at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, 3636 Turtle Creek Blvd (at Blackburn), Dallas, TX 75219. Tickets are $30-$50 and can be purchased online at www.uptownplayers.org or by phone at (214) 219-2718.
