New York Classical Theatre has announced the all-female, gender-fluid, and disability-forward cast for Shakespeare’s Richard III.

NY Classical Theatre, New York City’s all-free Off Broadway Equity theatre company, will complete its acclaimed run of William Shakespeare’s King Lear this week. Final performance is Sunday, August 8 at The Battery (Battery Place & Broadway). Performances are Tuesday-Sunday at 7:00 pm. 

NY Classical Theatre will return to live performance this summer with a production of William Shakespeare’s King Lear, which will be staged at four public parks in Manhattan and Brooklyn from June 24-August 8. 

NY Classical Theatre will bring back the entire original cast of its critically acclaimed production of Oscar Wilde's comic masterpiece, The Importance of Being Earnest, for an encore reading on July 16, 2020 at 8 pm, directed by Burdman.

NY Classical Theatre, New York City's all-free Off-Broadway Equity theatre company, will present a free virtual zoom reading of William Shakespeare's King Lear on Thursday, June 25 at 8:00 pm, as a fundraiser for an intended full production later this year.

In Oscar Wilde's THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, Gwendolen says, "In matters of grave importance, style, not sincerity, is the vital thing." It seems that NY Classical's new production took this quip to heart as their stylizing replaces more nuanced characterization at times, at least in the gender-reversed version.

After a successful run in Central Park, playing to over 4,000 people, performances resume on Wednesday, June 27 in Rockefeller Park/Battery Park City for New York Classical Theatre's critically acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet, directed by the company's Founding Artistic Director Stephen Burdman. The production will play this week through June 30, before continuing on to The Battery, Carl Schurz Park, and Brooklyn Bridge Park for performances through July 29. The production, directed by Mr. Burdman, is the company's first staging of Shakespeare's tale of star-crossed lovers, and will be presented in five New York City parks - Central Park, Rockefeller Park/Battery Park City, The Battery, Carl Schurz Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park - with performances from June 5 through July 29 at 7:00 PM. There is no ticketing, and all performances are free and open to the public. New York Classical Theatre also invites audiences to experience unique behind-the-scenes access to open rehearsals on selected dates for each of the five park stagings.
