BWW Review: Arizona Broadway Theatre Presents LA CAGE AUX FOLLES Photo BWW Review: Arizona Broadway Theatre Presents LA CAGE AUX FOLLES
by Herbert Paine - Jan 28, 2020

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES owns a well-deserved place in theatre history. In its current run at Arizona Broadway Theatre, featuring Jamie Parnell as Georges and Michael Ursua as Albin, while the story has a fair share of charm, wit, pathos, and flesh, for a show famous for its flash and flamboyance, this production is pretty toned down ~ save for a statue of David with a boastful appendage and an over-the-top performance by Seth Tucker as Albin's a?oemaid!a?? Runs through February 28th at ABT's location in Peoria after which it takes the stage at the Herberger Theatre Center in Phoenix from March 6th through March 22nd.

CHICAGO Comes to Winnipesaukee Playhouse Photo CHICAGO Comes to Winnipesaukee Playhouse
by Stephi Wild - Aug 10, 2019

CHICAGO, the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical, written with the guiding hand of Bob Fosse, has the ability like no other to follow an inhale of razzle-dazzle with a deeply disturbing exhale of political distrust. This musical, now on stage at the Winnipesaukee Playhouse, is proof enough. At a recent performance, laughs and applause had a way of dissolving into thoughtful reflection on America's present state, as the show's depictions of violence and 'fake news' revealed themselves, smuggled in under the cover of Jazz Age decadence.

by Herbert Paine - Mar 18, 2019

MAMMA MIA! ~ Arizona Broadway Theatre's zesty reprise of the ABBA-inspired musical that never flags in its ability to stir up a hearty round of opas. The familiarity of the songs and the characters brings certain comfort to an already appreciative audience. Mark Foreman's orchestra knocks out ABBA's popular melodies with vigor. The ensemble steps lively to their airs. The leads deliver solid performances. Runs through April 20th.

BWW Review: THE PRODUCERS at Broward Stage Door Theatre Photo BWW Review: THE PRODUCERS at Broward Stage Door Theatre
by David McKibbin - Feb 7, 2019

The Broward Stage Door Theatre is slowly but steadily growing into its new Lauderhill home. The Producers is a show that can challenge any major regional theatre with its performance and technical demands. The Stage Door has taken on said challenge with grace. Throughout the show's month-long run, audiences have laughed at the show's timeless Mel Brooks humor and were moved by some high-quality performances.

Mel Brooks' musical comedy The Producers won a record-setting 12 Tonys in 2001, including Best Musical - the most in the awards' history. It also set the standard for outrageous, in-your-face, politically incorrect humor. Stage Door Theatre will present what Variety's Charles Isherwood called 'a rip-roaring, gut-busting, rib-tickling, knee-slapping, aisle-rolling … good time' musical at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC). The show will open on January 18th and run through February 10th.
