Christa Justus Biography
Christa Justus released her debut album, Throw It To the Wind: The Songs of Maltby & Shire, on June 8, 2010 on the PS Classics label. This collection features bold new arrangements of the Maltby/Shire catalogue, a collaboration with her friend, award-winning composer/ arranger Andrew Gerle. Christa’s fresh takes on these musical theatre gems have been featured on NPR’s The Jonathan Schwartz Show (WNYC - 93.9FM) and on Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Her long association with Richard Maltby, Jr. & David Shire includes productions of their latest musical, TAKE FLIGHT at the Eugene O’Neill Musical Theater Conference, Manhattan Theatre Club and in St. Petersburg, Russia as well as workshop productions of their Tony Award-winning Broadway hit, BABY. Christa Justus appeared in both the Broadway and First National touring productions of the Tony-Award winning musicals LES MISÉRABLES and TITANIC. Her regional theatre credits include “Mary” in MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis and “Melba (‘Zip’) Snyder” in PAL JOEY at the Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia for which she received a Barrymore nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical. She originated the roles of “Sunshine” in Tom Jones’ musical version of the cult classic, HAROLD & MAUDE, at the Actors’ Studio with Estelle Parsons; office drunk "Margaret 'Atta Girl' Foster" in the original workshop productions of Dolly Parton's Broadway musical, NINE TO FIVE; and reporter “Ann Mitchell” in Andrew Gerle & Eddie Sugarman’s MEET JOHN DOE. Christa made her New York cabaret debut in 2009 at the West Bank Cafe in Throw It To the Wind: The Songs of Maltby & Shire. In June 2008, she made her directorial debut at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse with their acclaimed regional premiere of LES MISÉRABLES. Christa has danced across the screen in Woody Allen’s Celebrity, sold Barney videos on QVC, shared scenes with "Lisa" on As The World Turns, sung in concert halls (Symphony Space, Alice Tully Hall) and on numerous recordings (Schmidt & Jones' Colette, Collage). She earned her BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).
